Re: SpaceX News

Did the previous designs actually address legs? My recollection is that there was talk that it would "snap into" docking connector on the pad on Earth. I think it may have been glossed over how legs would work without such a pad/dock available. Based on yesterday's info from Musk, it sounds like the...

Re: SpaceX News

Who is inventing details? Do you have a good reason to know Musk is wrong when he states the new design is riskier? Aside from that, I'm trying to work out your ground rules here... quotes irrelevant to my point are preferable to ones that spell out my concern almost verbatim? Is there some further ...

Re: SpaceX News

“Prior to this the idea was to decouple the legs from the wings. This wasn’t very aesthetic, so now we have 3 large legs/wings that actuate. It is slightly more risky because we are combining multiple functions together”

Re: SpaceX News

Disappointed by updated design. Turns out the only significant difference (added fins) were not a result of engineering, but simply that Musk liked the aesthetics more. He even admitted the design was now riskier as a result.

This guy legit scares me now.

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

From the update they gave last year at this time (https://arpa-e.energy.gov/sites/default ... 9_GOTA.pdf)
They were targeting: Ti keV ~1–2 and Te keV ~0.2–1

Looks like they are within both ranges, which is good, though one more than the other.

Re: SpaceX News

An exciting update to break the tedium of successful launches today! Moon trip passengers (via BFR) to be announced Monday. Included is a render of an updated BFR design: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DnA7hZgU8AAxfxC.jpg:orig All engines now look to be sea-level. Speculation is that the skirt around t...

Re: SpaceX News

Was surprised to see next on the agenda isn't until Oct6. I had thought things were supposed to be packed in pretty tight this month to the end of the year.

Red Dragon” was a thing up until recently— intended to deliver cargo to mars via F9 Heavy.

I was disappointed by target for late 2020s for a commercial demo reactor. Wasn’t it mid 2020s just recently?

Re: SolidEnergy - 13 Wh in 29 g li-ion cell - any independent confirmation?

They seem to be in exactly the same place they claimed to be about two years ago. If you look back to two years ago in their original press release and news stories (too lazy to search right now), pretty much the same as that too. Actually, I think at that point they were projecting cars in two yea...

Re: Mach Effect progress

That's the claim from the thread TDPerk linked to : BTW same kind of casualness in their EmDrive testing, as already reported on these boards in the dedicated thread, for example here and there. ... Part of the reason that Tajmar's group published on two different drives was an attempt to show how g...

Re: SpaceX News

Actually, I think NASA wants 7 launches in a "frozen" config. They have launched block V as of last month... but that was a version without the new COPV tanks. First flight with those doesn't come until August I think. So they need 7 flights from that point.

Re: SpaceX News

Also, as a minor point, as I understand, there will be no "Block 6 Falcon 9". They have capped the program at Block 5. There may be some 5.1, or 5.1.1 stuff, however, I am pretty darn sure that they came out and said end of the design train for Falcon. Absolutely no disagreement there; block 6 was ...

Re: SpaceX News

You missed my point: Given: Keys to BFR being cheaper than F9 = 1) Full re-usability 2) High volume of launches 3) Re-usability without refurb across 100x launches ...and given: Stated goals of block 5 = 1) Full re-usability 2) High volume of launches 3) Re-usability without refurb across 10x launch...
