Re: Skynet is coming.

I may have underestimated the rate of progress, but I was not far off on the methodology: http://www.talk-polywell.org/bb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4519&p=101698#p101698 No, when UCAVs eventually match humans in a dogfight it will likely be some combination of neural/ fuzzy algorithms with background gene...

Re: Skynet is coming.

The expert said that they had programmed the robot to try and avoid obstacles, and it had not been intended that it would look for ways to leave the research centre. Being cooped up in a research center is an obstacle to be avoided when you are after total world domination. Just following its progr...

Re: Stirling Engine Advance

I remember reading about someone converting a V-8(?) to Stirling several years ago, but don't have a link. The key to Stirling engine performance is the regenerator. Regenerator material (stainless steel wool is good) and amount of "dead" space are critical: http://www.j-mst.org/On_line/admin/files/...

Re: Stirling Engine Advance

You need a steady gradient across these things to achieve long life. A constant-RPM Stirling driving a generator, steadily charging a powerpack, would have gentler waste heat transients than an IC engine driving the unpredictable primary load. Buffered by being one step further removed from the acc...

Re: Stirling Engine Advance

And this is where I think Liquid Piston has cracked the nut, so to speak. By redesigning the rotor and chamber, they can now add fixed position seals to gain on compression as well, just like piston rings, except they are part of the 'cylinder' wall, vice riding on the 'piston'. Very clever. But th...

Re: Stirling Engine Advance

The big problem with most rotary engine/pump designs (including Wankel and related) is "line" seals, instead of the more desirable "area" seals. The one thing reciprocating piston engines have going for them is the option of adding as many piston rings as needed to get compression. There is nothing ...

It would be nice to know if that painting is antique or not.

Golden Ratio and Spiral Phyllotaxis are not at the heart of the Mandelbrot Set. It is the simple algorithm z_n+1 = (z_n)^2 + c.

Bounded or unbounded. Colors indicate escape-to-infinity time.

I recall reading somewhere that nukes are indeed identifiable with respect to material source(s) due to unique isotope percentages and international cataloguing of mining deposits.

Re: Hot lead fixed my computer. Fixed it real good.

Talking to doctors has become very expensive since Obamacare ended my job and the associated health insurance. But the good part about that is, I have not been funding, via taxes, his insane agenda. For decades I've been minimizing my dependence on the Medical-Industrial Complex via diet and nutriti...
