Well now you've gone and made me look up the actual papers, which incidentally were not behind a paywall for me - let me know if they are for you. University of Sydney paper: http://pop.aip.org/resource/1/phpaen/v18/i11/p112501_s1?view=fulltext&bypassSSO=1 (this one mentions wiffle ball terminology...

Me too. But that said, I really do think they have moved past "Wiffleball" and are now fully into scaling. Seriously, why test scaling if you do not have confinement? What would be the purpose of seeking to show, "oooh! Looky Here! Even more crappy confinement than the smaller version!" the optimis...

Personally, I think you can 100% sure that Wiffleball is proven at this point.
Personally, i'd like to see that

a) published somewhere in a peer reviewed journal
b) replicated successfully by someone else,
c) fully characterised

... before being '98.5%' sure ;)

M.... ... just nice to see the subject is still (just about) alive. particularly nice to see posters on plasma stability and pops - pretty rare. also the Japanese focus on DEC - looks good work. just wish the convention was bigger/more buzzing. pretty sm...

just read the Josh Sloan poster - 'Optimizing a Multi-Grid Inertial Electrostatic Confinement System to Maximize Fusion Power Generation' - looks like he's got a good handle on the maths. i was confused at first by his treatment of 'annealing', thinking it be the infamous (/presumed) edge annealing,...

Liquid air 'offers energy storage hope'

here's a pretty neat idea for dealing with intermittent energy generation: http://www.highview-power.com/wordpress/?page_id=1320f for those who can view it - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19785689 and another vid of the (engine/plant) inventor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOImbv_x...

i must say, i feel people are being a little 'harsh' with Polywelfan. having said that, it does seem on the face of it that Polywelfan (who last posted here 'some months ago'), hasn't actually bothered to read/catch up and comprehend all of the intervening posts/updates. Instead, he has 'jumped in' ...

i don't usually enter into discussions on this subject. for the simple reason that 'reason' itself rarely seems to apply to any of the arguments against; ie. it is unwinnable. but for the record, i am a long-time 'recreational' user of chemicals, with no regrets and no harm, to myself or to anyone e...
