I believe the problem with the second stage was that the ISS was in the same orbit plane and anything less than a perfect boost would risk the station. Yeah, I think that it would be really hard to hit the station without course corrections even if they tried. But oh well. The Dragon was the primar...

I believe the problem with the second stage was that the ISS was in the same orbit plane and anything less than a perfect boost would risk the station. Probability of such perfect boost was estimated to be 95% with the fuel remaining in the second stage, but NASA required something like 99% probabil...

Some more theroy: Electron degeneracy pressure is given by the formula, P = h^2 /(20 me * mp^(5/3)) * (3/pi)^(2/3) * (Rho/mue)^(5/3) Where: ... The terms are defined by several different experts to be found on the Internet using Google, search on "Electron degeneracy pressure". One such source is ht...

Of course, with the addition of a coin-op/credit card reader and government demand for new revenue, this device is sure to become a common sight in such places as monasteries, high schools, bars and restaurants, airports and military installations. Just imagine the minds of the engineers who concei...

Magnetoshell Aerobraking & Aerodynamics
I found this topic on the nasaspaceflight forum and pretty blatantly copied it over. http://www.nasa.gov/offices/oct/early_stage_innovation/niac/2012_phase_I_fellows_kirtley.html From the above link - The Plasma Magnetoshell is a high-Beta (the ratio of plasma to magnetic field energy density) dipol...

Now that might work. Isp = 10,000 seconds gives Ve= 98100 m/s so let the SSTO produce 6 MN of thrust gives a mass flow, mdot = 61.16 kg/s, with engines burning for 600 seconds to reach orbit at 9.2 km/s. I calculate MR = 1.09832 and reaction mass (fuel) expended is about 36.7 tonnes. So given an SS...

Well, except that we have no idea what sorts of measurements Rohner have taken. They said they have 150% OU. One supposes if they're going to say that, then they must have used some sort of technique to measure. Assuming they don't based upon a presentation demo seems to me a pretty uncharitable as...

Seems to me that there is still some confusion as to the difference between a gas and a plasma. They are different states of matter. Gas laws do not hold for plasmas nor do the rules governing plasma physics apply to gasses. The rules characterizing plasma behavior within magnetic fields are not gen...
