Thank you Tom. I started using Vizimag because of a question I couldn't answer out of my own knowledge. That question is kind of dumb, but you know how it is, even the dumb queries can get you hooked. The thing is, does the magnetic field balloon out the "back" of the polywell (i.e. towards the vacu...

Using Vizimag (2D only) I made a polywell equivalent. The field vectors are thus:- http://www.tonybarry.net/tonybarry/Fusion_pix_files/droppedImage.png and the field intensity is thus:- http://www.tonybarry.net/tonybarry/Fusion_pix_files/droppedImage_1.png As far as I understand, the field vectors i...

The electrons do have to match, or the whole polywell would rapidly acquire a huge - and growing - static charge. As it turns out, when you ionise boron you get 5 electrons; when you ionise the hydrogen to get the proton you get another electron. That makes six electrons. When the p and the B11 are ...

Carter's code base is in Matlab, which does allow multiprocessor operation - if the required toolbox is installed. The running of the sim on a worker farm requires a Matlab worker licence for each worker. If you already have the farm and licences, then there is no problem. Otherwise, it can get expe...

Hello Carter,
This sounds good. Keep up the effort. How much RAM does your sim currently consume? And what hardware are you running it on?

If there were no other species in the polywell, then we might imagine a situation where the injected ions are able to pass right through the polywell, by aiming them just right, so they emerge on the other side of the MaGrid at the same velocity we sent them through from the ion gun. My understandin...

Hello Carlos,
I suspect that an ellipse might be the best cross-section, though as yet I don't know for sure; my "Vizimag" application does not let me easily model ellipses.

From Dr. Khachan's explanation, the microwave interferometer shines a beam of microwaves onto a splitter, with one half of the microwave beam going through the region of interest in the polywell, and the other half of the beam taking a route which doesn't go through the polywell. The beams are recom...

Dr. Joe Khachan seemed to think that the acid test for the polywell would be confinement; and best measured with a microwave interferometer. I sent Joe the Alan Boyle link, and he replied as follows:- "... Thanks for the link on Rick's interview. Looks like he is happy with the results, but it also ...

In the medical research world, a peer review is conducted by two or three reviewers, who receive the presumptive paper and basically go over it with a fine toothed comb, looking for flaws in logic or methodology or statistics. This process can be quite drawn out - a minimum of two months to an avera...

Good article by Alan Boyle. Now we wait for the peer review.

I wonder what Nebel meant by "the answers are kind of nuanced" ...

Also the comments say that Robert Hirsch is on the panel ... any way to corroborate this?

Hello John, According to Joe Khachan, JET achieved break-even + (net power) in the middle of the 90's ... but the run times were measured in seconds. Economic break-even is a different matter, and should be measured more by dollars per megawatt than energy in vs energy out. Unlike energy break-even,...

Hello culthero, Welcome to Talk-Polywell. You are correct when you say a public campaign is needed to spur development of Dr. Bussard's polywell. We have a small one operating in the "blog-o-sphere", due in large part to MSimon's and Tom Ligon's tireless efforts. Any thing you can do to raise polywe...
