Intuitively, it would seem the fields would not merge where each half of the coils come together due to the bending away for the supports. I keep trying to see it in my mind, but I think I need to put it on paper. You are right that they don't merge, but none of Bussards designs has merge either, e...

In most details I like that design. I only see one problem: an electron that finds it's way through the cusp and into the channel between a quartet of feed and support lines will see no electric field to recirculate it back into the core until it escapes from the channel or reaches the far end. Thi...

A continuous loop is going to be hard to cool. And then there is the problem of stiffness without "nubs". Geometry is only part of the problem. And then there is the magnetic field problem. What does the field look like? i.e. you need the major field generators pointing "in" and the cusps pointing ...

In the quest for ever-greater masochism, this is half of a snub dodecahedron: http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x367/Robert_Peters/Snub_Dodecahedron_Half.jpg By itself, it's not a very satisfactory single coil candidate, in fact, it's impossible because some of the vertices have an odd number of ...

Over in magrid configuration brainstorming and writing (I think) about the "Cubist" WB: I thought the idea of squaring out the coils like in that picture was to reduce the "size" of the funny cusps in the corner? It would increase the lengths of the line cusps between coils, but to me it would seem...

... I just finished generating the 3D winding geometry for tombo’s single winding spherized octahedron configuration. Does it look something like this? http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x367/Robert_Peters/Tombo_Spherical_Single_Oblique.jpg http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x367/Robert_Peters/To...

Real Spherized Tombo: me likey. get 3rd spot on my list. my new prioritized list for modelling/simulation: 1. hanelyp's configuration on pg 1 of the brainstorming thread (radially-aligned coils), 2. mine and hanelyp's cusp conversion / disruption techniques on pg 26 of the brainstorming thread (sin...

imaginatium, Here is a Tombo spherical: EDIT: This is a "false" Tombo spherical. Later, I will complete a correct Tombo spherical. http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x367/Robert_Peters/Tombo_Spherical_ISO.jpg http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x367/Robert_Peters/Tombo_Spherical_Side.jpg http://i1...

It's going to be some kind of gee whiz kit. A direct energy conversion screen that catches the alphas streaming out of the cusps, thus protecting the injection guns, but that allows the injected ions/electron to go through in the opposite direction. One of those hi-sci-fi techno naming moments .......

So I presume, having been suitably chastened and having gone to wikipedia or elsewhere, you have determined that "Maxwellian" ~ "thermal", which Polywell is NOT . So they say. Do we have any experimental evidence for that? How about robust theoretical arguments? I think both are pretty thin. Art,yo...

It isn't all that tough; all you have to do is fire a proton beam at a boron-11 target. Here's an example: http://www.iop.org/EJ/article/0370-1298/65/9/306/prav65i9p745.pdf The reason everyone says it's so difficult is that they're thinking of configurations designed to produce net power. If you do...

Probably. I don't have the link anymore. A few pages were developed and then it died. One of the problems was that the size was limited. Do you remember who set it up? No. Had it been what I consider useful it would have gotten a link on my fusion sidebar. If you want to start one "Wiki Spaces" is ...
