Re: Factor X have we finally found the fountain of Youth?
Would someone like to tell me why the few social conservatives who have commented on radical life extension are so hostile towards it? This is probably the number one reason why social conservatives irritate me. People who oppose the development of effective anti-aging therapies irritate me regardle...

Re: General Fusion in the news
The technology risk in any of these fusion concepts is still way too high for most investors who could put, say, $300 million into this kind of deal. Also, the development and payback period is too long as well, 7 to 10 years. A $300 million deal on this speculative of technology is going to be synd...

He is a bit of a one-note Johnny on the subject of drug prohibition. Appropriate subjects for appropriate threads. This is why: "[Nixon] emphasized that you have to face the fact that the whole problem is really the blacks" Haldeman, his Chief of Staff wrote, "The key is to devise a system that rec...

Re: Mach Effect progress
I think the "flying saucer" shape is inspired by the idea that it is a low, flat shape that minimizes the mass per unit area of MET used to drive the ship. The bottom surface of the saucer would comprise of modular MET's that cover the entire bottom surface of the ship. However, if the ship uses ele...

Re: Mach Effect progress
It has always seemed to me that the true test of scientific theories is if they result in technological innovations. Woodward's interpretations of Mach's principle seems to be doing just that. All of the ooga booga surrounding QVF, not to mention all the "Tao of Physics" and its derivative non-sense...

Re: Mach Effect progress
Your comment: He invented his Transactional Interpretation of QM, that like Woodward's theory, uses this Wheeler-Feynman advanced and retarded waves symmetry to get instantaneous action at a distance. And I think that given Wheeler-Feynman, Cramer and Woodward have all found this symmetry to answer ...

Re: Mach Effect progress
I am wading my way through Heidi Fern's paper. Its a bit over my head although the parts I can grasp are quite interesting. It does prompt a question for you guys. Some time ago, David Bohm came up with what he called "pilot wave" theory to explain the phenomenon of quantum effects. Could "pilot wav...

Re: Firefly News
Firefly has an interesting design. The cooling system is critical. The hurtle that has kept aerospikes from bring used in the materials issue with the plug getting too hot. If they can keep this cool and the self-pressurization (delivery of the fuel to the engine as the tank empties) works out, I th...

Re: Mach Effect progress
I've known Charles Platt for over 20 years through the cryonics and life extension milieu. His article, as to be expected, is quite good. He is a good person to have interested in Woodward's Mach effect work as he is quite sympathetic for technological developments that improve life and create oppor...

Re: Google Engineers Say Renewable Energy ‘Simply won’t work
I raise a large portion of my vegetables, have a hydroponic garden, and use solar. Why you may ask? It is because this will be the wave of the future. The more self-reliant you are the better off you will be. Why? Because those that control the food and control the power will eventually be controll...

Re: "High Frontier" space settlement video game
A sustainable 1 gee acceleration drive allows for the ship to life off the surface of the Earth and to get to the Kuiper Belt in about 3 weeks travel time. No need for separate Earth to LEO launch vehicle and then transfer to interplanetary ship for deep space travel. It would be like the only 1940'...
