Yes, well ... as ChrisMB has pointed out we have compulsory insurance in UK with tow and crush rules for non compliance. I've just looked at one of my policies and the limit for third party damages is £20,000,000 (and I do mean 20 million pounds) for a premium of £249.75 per annum - oh and my car i...

I can say that it isn't easy to decide exactly what to do when the car suddenly accelerates when you aren't expecting it. I've only had it happen once (in the early 70s) - I was driving a manual mark 2 Jag and had accelerated from some lights down a (thankfully) straight road in town. I got to third...

Aero,

You posted a link in another thread which eventually leads to here:
http://www.remyinc.com/docs/102509_WHITE PAPER_fin.pdf

... which ends up as a broken link and I haven't a clue how to fix it!

In that document they claim 2.3kW/kg which I make just under 1.4hp/lb.

Yes, well ... selection of data on all sides.

Flinging epiphets around does no good to any discussion ... perhaps Josh (and others) should go and cool his (their) heels for a while?

Yes, that didn't go quite the way I expected. I was trying to point out that 100s of sq. m of roof area was certainly not typical of family houses in Europe (Austria I can't comment on - not having visited there for about 50 years). I can see that US areas are considerably greater, in general. Chris...

"A large (by UK terms) 5 bedroom house (in the country) has an area of about 100 sq. m." Good lord! My 5 bedroom here in the states is 250m^2. You never should have taxed the tea... You're probably right about the tea! I think in this case it's more to do with population density ... I should perhap...

... I must say that I did bring the topic up first in a fit of annoyance. I'm over it. I voted for NOTHING. Yeah, I thought it was a fit of pique. Even 99.9% efficiency only gets you about 1KW/m^2. Which would not be THAT bad. A m^2 is nothing. A typical (single family) residential roof has hundreds of m^2. ... Well, no - in terms of area at least. A large (by UK terms) 5 bedroom house (in the country) has an area of about 100 sq. m. Given th...

To ban anybody (unless they have persistently broken site rules) is censorship of the worst kind. I may seldom agree with Josh but he has a right to his point of view and does at least argue (normally) with the backing of some kind of 'evidence'. I've put evidence in quotes because there are differe...
