I often listen to the podcast. It kinda bores me when they start talking too much about american politics (because I am not american), other than that, some great programs there.
Listened plenty of fusion related podcasts, but I think I did not catch yours and MSimon one!

Re: China's nuclear fusion machine just smashed Germany's hydrogen plasma record
ok, in that case, how good is the news of such long time at those temperatures?
is that bad news for other fusion technologies competing with Tokamaks?

Re: Wendelstein 7-X
this article claims Wenderlstein 7X was the first in the world ever to produce hydrogen plasma? Other fusion prototypes only produced helium plasma. Is there any veracity to that? http://www.iflscience.com/physics/germanys-fusion-reactor-creates-hydrogen-plasma-world-first "Germany's Fusion Reactor ...

Re: EMC2 news
I wonder if they shouldn't drop calling it F1, or they will spend all their money on a legal battle with FIA which probably has the acronym as a trademark for Formula One.
Re: BLP news
well, think about it, they probably had a problem with people thinking they were makers of those ultraviolet lights for nightclubs

Re: Mach Effect progress
I don´t think the technical paper panels were filmed. The convention was pretty big, but only talks in the main auditorium seem to have been filmed.

Magnetic Wormhole: would this have utility for Polywell?
http://nextbigfuture.com/2015/08/metamaterial-magnetic-wormhole-moves.html "Researchers have transferred a magnetic field across space with a length of special tubing that acted as if it were a hose that could carry magnetic fields without them losing strength. But external magnetic fields would be ...

Re: Another Space Elevator Design
oh, I did not read about the 100km tall one. such a structure would need to reduce $/kg by a HUGE margin to be worth it. However, unlike the space elevator (real one, that goes past geosynchronous orbit) you still need rockets to add a delta-v of 30 thousand km/h. maybe at that altitude SSTO would b...

Re: Another Space Elevator Design
what gravity losses? Because you can focus on accelerating horizontally and need to spend less energy on getting to altitude, fighting gravity. the tower is what, 20-30 km tall? You would still need to get 300 km higher for a decent dragless orbit. The gains would be marginal, after all, it would s...

Re: Another Space Elevator Design
I don't see much of an advantage as well. Main things you safe are drag losses and gravity losses. You might be able to use engines that are more optimized for a vacuum. But that's about it. I don't think it is worth the effort. what gravity losses? as for engine optimization, we are talking here a...
