For your kids - Misconceptions spread by K-6 Textbooks
I've come across this page before ( http://amasci.com/miscon/elect.html ), and thought others here might find it interesting. I didn't have time to reread all of it again, but it was enlightning when I first read point 1 of "electricity misconceptions", and also like points 5 & 7. I should add "not ...

because it has no iron core to saturate, it is highly linear even when subjected to large currents An interesting investigation may be their application to high power AC protection. For my study one the final projects on the table is dealing with CTs (current transformers) that saturate during norm...

What we are more interested in is static electro-magnets (magneto-statics) and particle motion in magnetic fields. Different beasty, it seems. I wasn't familiar with the term magnetostatics. When I went looking I came across a magnetostatic simulator here... http://www.falstad.com/vector3dm/. Under...

Re: Gravity repels
you would basically see a clump of dense +g matter and -g matter moving away from each other. Why this doesn't seem to be is that the cosmic background noise should show this disparity and it doesn't. Cool. I was hoping for something definitive to close down this line of thinking. I get a lot of in...

You've conjured up some ideas, but just because you can imagine them, it doesn't make it right or possible. Of course, but we often need to imagine things before we can examine and develop them. Nice to hear your idea, as well as Kiteman's gravity shading idea. However when you say "That energy can...

Remember the force of gravity depends on the mass of an object, so a negative g-charged particle would have negative mass : 1) The acceleration a particle experiences is Force/Mass so if a kicked a ball will negative mass it would accelerate in the opposite direction and pass straight through me!!!...

That's a poor explanation for dark matter, which is proposed to exist due to an otherwise unexplained attraction ... there is too much gravity holding together galaxies based on known visible matter. Fair enough. I don't know much about dark matter and didn't develop my idea to explain it - it just...

Gravity repels
Over time I've bumped into a few comments that gravity only acts in one direction, that is, always attraction. Something about this monopole situation niggles at me and over a couple of years of musing about this a pet theory developed. I haven't the resources or time to follow this up properly, so ...

Re: Just a suggestion
why not shift the heat out of the coil using the Peltier effect? Do you mean like a peltier device you might put on a CPU? It creates a cold side and a hot side, but the heat from the hot side still needs to go somewhere. Are you placing the peltier so that the hot side is not inside the vacuum?
Hardware
Just wanted to list some interesting hardware I've some across over time in case its randomly of interest or use to someone. http://www.glassmanhv.com/products.shtml High voltage supplies. I see you have already signed up so this is just for later reference or someone else may find useful. I have used flexihosting for the past six years and never noticed a problem. It a little more expensive but then if you are using it for business you don't necessarily want the absolute cheapest. Pe...

kunkmiester, You may want to look into using the Arduino Platform with the Processing Language . Its aimed at artists and non-technical people wanting to do control. Its C++ at its core but no (explicit) linking or compiling. Just click the Upload button to load your program into the microprocessor....

Electronic Measurement
I had the opportunity a while ago of collecting off the web a bunch of good resources on electronic measurement. A few were particularly enlightening. These could be useful to someone designing a controller. More could be added if there is interest. Analog Devices Application Note AN-345 Grounding f...
