Re: Sell The Whitehouse to Trump

And a hard hit on the deficit.

When I was a boy, real Republicans were deficit hawks. This fakir has a history of running outfits bankrupt and finding a way to personally profit from it while leaving wreck and ruin for everyone else. And now he's got an actual country to ruin.

Re: SpaceX News

I've been wondering about that. We don't know what the payload was ... possibly a test of a re-entry system? But I don't want to speculate too hard ... If I guess right, they may have to kill me.

As a beekeeper, I'm very aware of a goofy invention called the Flow Hive, that got something like $13M on Indiegogo. Their target had been a couple of hundred thousand.

Re: SpaceX News

At least with mechanical ejection systems, you can try again. With pyros you get one shot. I'm starting to understand why SpaceX hates pyros. The one time I've used pyros, they were fantastically expensive for what they are, hand-made specials with a long leadtime and difficult to ship. So there we...

Re: SpaceX News

The judges should have watched this one. No word yet on the second stage other than it was on its way and deployed its fairing. The first stage launch looked perfect, and as nearly as I can tell, a bullseye landing. This night stuff can be entertaining. Now, let's see that big sucker fly a car to Ma...

Re: Fission news(I know blasphemy )

In our neck of the woods, we have an abundance of gas from fracking. The most recent powerplant to be built in our area is natural gas fired. This has, if I understand it, a mix of steam and gas turbines. The gas turbines are like turboprop engines ... can throttle up our down quickly. Compare this ...

Re: SpaceX News

What a delightfully nutty concept, to launch a Tesla Roadster to Mars!

Though, when you get right down to it, it is probably the least expensive payload they've launched except for water.

Re: SpaceX News

It is so tempting to take a short notice vacation and "visit my parents" in Eustice FL, "coincidentally" in time to see FH launch. ;) I won't be going. My wife definitely will not be going. We were nearby a few weeks back, taking a cruise from Port Canaveral, but there was nothing visible on the pa...

Re: Mark Duncan has passed ...

Kiteman, I think it would be a good idea if you and anyone else so inclined could download and archive the library of Polywell-related documents on his website, just in case. I just heard back from his sister. I can't imagine the family would object to posting his material, particularly if done in h...

Mark Duncan has passed ...

Mark Duncan, the fellow who cleaned up and posted many of Dr. Bussard's papers on his Askmar.com website, passed away on the evening of December 23, 2017. Mark did the Polywell an incalculable service by doing this. I have been sending people to his website for years. I have space on mine ... I supp...

Re: SpaceX News

Apparently, all the used junk they flew today worked just fine!

There was no score from the judges on the landing. They slept thru it. We may have heard the last from them unless SpaceX can work in some amusing aerobatics.

Re: Unusual Looking Space Rock

Now we're getting into "El Dorado" territory, a story I wrote after Dr. Bussard told me about his design for an Interstellar Ramjet Star Killer."

The problem with that one is, by the time it was close enough to see, it would be right behind the light you were seeing, doing about 0.999999c.

Re: Unusual Looking Space Rock

Definitely curious, but given that it's (1) tumbling, and (2) showing no sign of any sort of acceleration of its own, it's most likely a rock. Or if a spacecraft, a derelict. Alas, we're not in a position to send a probe after it. Picture what a stunning find it would be if we could examine an extr...
