Re: Magnetic mirrors are back?

Nice reading.

I have read somewhere that the gas dynamic trap needed 2 kilometers of reaction chamber to reach break even.

Great news if they can make it in a short stump of tubing with HT superconductors.

Helion Giga factories will need capital before the 2030's. An IPO before then would raise the capital needed for their first factory, no? 2028?
So the idea at present is to do this as an in-house production operation? No licensing?

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

If successful, this project becomes the single most valuable intellectual property on the planet. Are there any hints on business models? Personally, I would prefer a that a single time payment is arranged and then have it made open source. A 100 dollar from every taxpayer in the USA and EU should b...

Re: First Light Fusion News

I was struck by the idea of weaponizing this technology. To make a pure fusion gun type weapon. But: https://firstlightfusion.com/technology/power-plant "We are aiming for a power plant producing ~150 MW of electricity, firing once every 30 seconds" 120 firings an hour. Which should make for a 12500...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024

Sites with nuclear power plants should be straight forward for installations. Existing nuclear power sites are in remote locations. Which makes for huge investments in electricity transfer infrastructure and long commutes for service staff. At normal operations, this technology should have an envir...

Re: Lyten - Lithium Sulfur Battery

Then we keep our fingers crossed and hope for some specifications for an actual cell. Claiming you have a Li-S battery with commercially relevant performance without giving any numbers is like saying you can do energy fusion without giving a triple product. Generally speaking: It is nice to see the ...

Very interesting! A little reflection on the dosage estimations in the accident scenarios on page 119: They are given no time dimension. Why? Are they designating total accumulated dose relating to the released core content? I have seen a lot of maps of charted dosage from Fukushima and they are dep...

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage

There are ways to use CO2 to offset secondary emissions. Given that you have access to cheap energy it is a viable feedstock for synthesis. For example this project: https://www.chalmers.se/en/projects/Pages/Power-to-Food--concept-for-production-of-food-with-reduces.aspx https://www.tellerreport.com...

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage

You shut the faucet before you wipe the floor. It is always better not to emit something than emitting it to catch it back and store it later. Carbon capture is no option until the last fossil fired power plant is closed. Will that have happened in 2050? Even if Helion and all the others succeed? It...

Re: Hydrostor - compressed air energy storage

80% efficiency they say... I google 10-15 % for compressors. 100 kW electric power gives 10-15 kW compressed air power. Add the inefficiencies in converting it back to electricity. Not to say that the electricity comes from hugely wasteful wind and solar to begin with. Renewables should be considere...
