One thing that I never understood about the US military is the horrible way they treat recruits. It almost seems like they want to break someones character for some reason. I heard that even in Westpoint they have ensigns stand up during dinner and make completely pointless reports instead of quiet...

Again, it works here. Why are you disregarding this fact? I dont get it. In fact you could make it infinitely better than the system we have here, because you have the luxury of starting from scratch and looking at all the other systems in place, taking what works and watching out for what does not...

I got here in a really roundabout way. My friends dad did some consulting work for ITER, and brought me back a CD they give folks explaining the concept. Kind of like a demo/business card. I started googling terminology from the CD and found Dr. Bussards google tech talk, and watched it a few times ...

Re: The race is on Polywell vs ITER: 2

[Unfortunately, the previous thread of this title got locked due to thread drift.] "The idea of a polywell vs ITER race immediately caused me to imagine a fat elephant, with no legs, up against a dwarf on a penny farthing, sitting there at the start line long after the starter klaxon." Looks like t...

Someone brought up the old Project Orion, an idea to use bombs ... I mean pulse propulsion devices ... to power spacecraft. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Orion_(nuclear_propulsion) Bad idea for aircraft propulsion. I've seen one photograph showing one used for propelling a battleship, but un...

Excuse me, I have it on good authority from a member of Them, the application of extremely rapid nuclear pulse reactions to propulsion should use the term "propulsive device", not bomb. That from a DHS function aimed at saving the world. They use people like me to mine for ideas like that. Fear not...

I'll have to ponder this for a while. I'll head out to the bookstore tommorrow. Is there anything specifically from Trig (I'm up to graphing the trig functions) that I need to focus on to understand derivatives and integrals? thanks Hi Eric I highly recommend "The Calculus Tutoring Book" bu Carol A...

How about a movie about polywell?
Kevin Costner as an engineer for EMC2 corp, who is building the Polywell to get the ghosts of the great scientists of times past to come out of the cornfield and play. Gary Sinise can play the ghost of Richard Feynman.
We can call it the β-Field of Dreams
