Goddard 1st flew in 1926, the V2 (A-4) was sub orbital, 55 miles altitude in 1942, thats 16 yrs. At that point, molecules of atmosphere are farther apart than the V-2 was wide. At least one V-2 was launched from White Sands, to measure the distance from molecule to molecule @ altitude. MAD, I'm not...

A land based polywell powered directed energy beam is also a possibility i can see the US pursuing in the near future. With out polywell, this has already been done, I recall airborne directed energy beams have been tested. This upsets me greatly as it will no doubt be used for missile defense Earl...

This is not fair play. He is an American. To not expect an American to not behave with some nationalism is simply a childish expectation. economists are giving the US economy a 1 in 3 chance of crashing. Many of the fundamentals are there. Though MSimon has a good point about WB-50 etc. Cranking ou...

Keegan, I have a 1971 DUAL (United Audio) belt drive turntable in good working condition. I play tabletop miniature wargames, I have a 2.6 inch aperture telescope, I have some gas powered radio control cars and trucks, I learned to modify the little engines to increase rpm & torque. I play a little ...

As neutron sources IEC devices are old hat. As far as a rogue group building an IEC device as a neutron source... if all you want is a bomb.... why go the route via IEC.

Does this represent a shortcut compared to the traditional ten thousand centrifuges ?

My guess is no.

Same here, WB 7 would be a truncated cube while WB 8 would be a truncated dodec.

Though I must say that Simons WB 7x seems mighty tempting.

IIRC,

P-B11 100MW net power=3m
P-B11 break even =2m
D_D 100MW net power=2m
D-D break even=1.5m

Thats a very important point. Polywell looks to be a real good fit in that regard.
Yes. Decentralized generation is going to yield benefits.

Do the guns really need to be time aligned / in phase for a virtual cathode to form ?
I'm guessing the electrons only need to show up within the whiffle ball & then to turn on the power. I recall a relation 'tween electrons/size of device/required # of ions, to make neutrons.
