How does ISS remove internal heat? Honest question, I know it is an issue, but have not stopped to see how they actually sched heat from inside. The average person gives off about 100W as I recall, and each operating piece of equipment adds in. I know from personal experience that it gets REALLY FR...

Kitty, I love the idea here in this thread, but don't you think that before we see real investment on orbit, we need to see a new transport system that is safe, quick, convenient and economical? Once we have that, what goes to orbit seems almost trivial by comparison. Sure... but one of the points ...

Even in LEO, the vacuum is much lower than you can get on Earth. Your polywell in space for space only work does not need a vacuum chamber. All you need is the core, and your energy grid. And a simple reflector system on one hemisphere will allow it to produce thrust - and, incidentally, serves as ...

Bumping this... Given the concept of deploying polywell fusion ASAP for R&D as an eventual spaceborne power supply the question would seem to be... ... how low can you go? A polywell that could generate net power at 100 kW or less would be much easier and much faster to deploy than one that has a mi...

Yous guy jist aint gettin it. PLUGGIN the hole is just plain stoopid. We don't want to NOT get the oil, we want to GET the oil. Well, there it is. Catch it and sell it. Oi, vat a concept! Reality: If the well is not stopped it will keep eroding the bore until the entire reservoir is open to ...

If you didn't want to hear it then chances are you didn't happen to hear it. Humans are funny like that, including me... :) This article talks about a study of a few samples of such deceptive statements. The referenced list is only an introduction to the subject, of course... there's much more detai...

The methane clathrates (hydrates) are a natural feature at that depth and pressure. The problem is they clog up the pipes when you suck in an oil/methane/water mixture... which is what the cap has to do. Thus the antifreeze features built into the cap. As I understand it an ROV accidentally damaged ...

Afghanistan was the only credible source of the 9/11 attacks that could be presented as a legitimate invasion target to the public... at least the only one that wasn't a big-oil "ally" named Saudi Arabia... Basically no one wants to admit the situation is screwed up beyond repair and our troops are ...

I guess you didn't watch the video then. Sorry, you're reaching a bit. The referenced article describes the Russian belief that the nukes were squeezing the bores shut. The problem is with the comparisons to the gulf blowout. The nukes squeezed shut on a natural gas flow... not an oil/gas mix of th...

You don't need a Tsar Bomba (in fact I'd argue that it would just rip open the whole reservoir to the ocean). But I reckon a nuke would work, a small one, placed adjacent to the piping. Worked quite well for the Russians. Thanks for finding that. Case made!.... Errr... not exactly: http://www.lives...

If this is the case, then whosoever licenced BP to drill such a fragile rock structure should be taken to task on it. BP simply did what any commercial company does - try to make money. Whoever licenced it to happen sounds like the one to be questioned on this. Which completely ignores the multitud...
