Re: Fusioneer claims Q of 1.084

Couple issues with this post. As for claims, Doug did one run where he had really high neutron production, got a big dose and got sick, and for several months has been building shielding before he tries it again. He knows he has something, but isn't running around saying this is the answer to all ou...

Re: General Fusion in the news

There is still a big question on if this will work. From my read and rumours in the neighbourhood, there are still some major challenges, namely, keeping the plasma clean in the injectors, keeping the plasmoids alive long enough to get to the center of the reactor, and then what happens regarding pl...

Bad case of STD: Significant Topic Drift. If you's like to talk about the Mars Rover, I suggest a new topic.

Re: EMC2 collaborating with other companies?

There are varies "knobs" that they can play with including drive voltage, mag field, e-guns, ion guns, pressure etc etc. It may be that the best Q is right on the edge of instability. Doug Coulter runs an interesting fusor and has pretty well documented how is neutron count spikes as he passes throu...

Re: Recovery.Gov Project Tracker

Sorry, but you are drastically wrong. Wind until the system hits about 30% of system capacity is the cheapest form of new installed energy. Full system cost included. After 30% you run into challenges with frequency stability and balancing that require more expensive additions, but take a look at No...

Re: Recovery.Gov Project Tracker

Coal is not cheap. It offloads a lot of its costs. Here is a good paper outlining the true cost of coal. http://solar.gwu.edu/index_files/Resources_files/epstein_full%20cost%20of%20coal.pdf As an aside, I'm a power developer. I'm technology agnostic. Today the cheapest form of new generation is wind...

Re: General Fusion in the news

Don't get too excited. The current prototype is not going to put out more watts than it consumes. It is going to show scaling and operations according to theory. Key words is on page 15 of the presentation -> "Equivalent Net Gain". It may be that this machine is meant to be net gain on D-T and they ...

No, they are using lead. Plan according to their website is eventually to use a molten lithium/lead mix to breed tritium as they go.

Re: General Fusion in the news

I'm pretty sure they do not have hundreds of millions of dollars funding. I think it is about 30 million. It is a mixture of public funds through STDC (gov of Canada research investing arm), VC (Chrysalix and others), and private funding. They may have commitments for further investment pending resu...

Re: General Fusion in the news

The next phase for General Fusion is to take the plasma injectors and bolt them to the mini sphere, start firing it and count the neutrons. If they are on track they will move to a commercial sized unit. I'm pretty sure they are funded through to full test of the assembled unit. The last presentatio...
