Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Helion themselves say a 10 T FRC outperforms a 44 Tesla Tokamak https://www.helionenergy.com/faq/ "Fusion reaction rates (the amount of energy produced) scale as magnetic field to the 4th power, an extremely strong scaling. However, that is the magnetic field inside the plasma, not outside. A 10 Tes...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
One cool thing about Helion's machines is that they can load follow really, really well. That means that they do not have to rely on a large grid for stabilization. I think that should help with smaller consumers that need/want their own plants. It is a shame though, that it is so hard to get a gri...

Re: Germany investing 1 billion in fusion
I agree that German energy policies has turned in a major tragedy for all of Europe. Had the 5-600 billion euros spent on the Energiewende instead been used on new nuclear power stations, Europe could simply have pulled the control rods and charged right through this crisis with a mighty nuclear fle...

News of a 30 Tesla magnet. For some reason all links are dead outside the US. Re: LK-99
https://twitter.com/andrewmccalip/status/1689476909208600576 Bad news: We now have a physical explanation for both the temperature-induced resistance drop as well as the magnetic levitation. The unusual synthetic conditions clearly resulted in a multiphase sample. The fragment that was observed to e...

Re: LK-99
I think the polywell silent majority is carefully watching this unfolding.
Some positives some negatives...
Perhabs the ranking should be set at somewhat worthy of attention.....
And as entertaining as any TV-show or movie.

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
A few MW of rejected heat is a selling point in large parts of world. To some extent depending on the quality of it. Aside from that: I dont think Helion has given any information at all on projected work force needs. Mandatory 24/7 presence of a skilled workforce team is no small issue. For small f...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Public perception will to some extent be affected by deployment. Do we know anything about what these machines need in workforce? Do they need an on-site operator staff 24/7 or are they supposed to be remotely operated with only occasional service team visits? In the first case they will probably be...
