Re: Stuff in Space

With Falcon Heavy the price of big stuff is dropped like a hot rock. You could probably throw ten small telescopes up for the price of one big one, and with modern controls, it will be easy to make arrays even in the visible spectrum. There's also the fact that you'd not be looking for just one obje...

Re: Attn: Tom Ligon

I had mentioned it on the forum a long time ago, you'd have to do so one digging for it. I think at this point though there is too much Tokomak. Like his data slabs which remain a bulkier version of tablets like he originally envisioned, it's a legacy he'll probably leave in since there's ten years ...

Re: tokomak startup?

Unless tritium is being used as a "starting fluid..." On a more serious note, Polywell is little known in the sci fi community as far as I can tell. When that strip was written (how long ago now?) The artist didn't know about Polywell. Tokomak is the default for the mpst part, so why not? I'm still ...

You using the speed reader Paperburn?

I had a chuckle, jab yet to read your response over there, but I was surprised to see someone else mention it over here.

Re: SpaceX News

Does a rocket reach a velocity where something like hail would be a bigger deal than for an airliner? Aside from lightning and winds, thats the only other problem with inclement weather. I don't know how far they've gotten on limiting weather's effects on prep, but if all they'd be worried about on ...

Re: Funding Polywell by an ICO

That would be the joy of a digital currency, it makes accounting easier. Not necessarily practical, but easier. The chain would provide the ability to tweak rates, different people would be able to set their hourly differently, and the math to account for the difference would be automatic, so it's s...

Re: Funding Polywell by an ICO

If I recall correctly bit coin at least does had an absolute limit in how much can be created, though it is a very large number. The greater concern is the audit process, supposedly someone like the NSA could create a few billion coin purses, and if they have them all verify or refuse to verify tran...

Re: Funding Polywell by an ICO

As I recall, there were plenty of investors interested, but Bussard insisted on a substantial amount of control over the technology, which was unconventional and kept anything from coming. There was also classification from the Navy, which while minor kept publishing for a while. I'm not sure where ...

Einstein's biggest blunder documentary

Just watched this on netflix, was looking for some scientific reviews, how they covered it, how accurate the idea is. Seems some have been accepting of the theory, this forum is my big go to place for science stuff, was wondering if any here had seen the documentary and what they thought of it.

Re: Mach Effect progress

What if it's a much lighter duty system running off a NTR? That wouldn't have as much of a heat signature. Thinking probe here, less a colony or invasion hsip.

Re: Mach Effect progress

I was actually looking at a similar plot, slight tweak on the motives though. The big boss aliens don't care, but they have an hierarchy based on tech development. They don't have a prime directive analogue, in fact they embrace sharing the benefits. Problem is the client race that discovers earth r...

Re: SpaceX News

A vast amount of the work I'd be doing by robot first anyway. About the only thing would be the stuff you absolutely need a human to do.

Thusly before human arrive life support systems and other things are running for weeks to months before you even launch, and you have a fix list to take with you.

Re: SpaceX News

m thinking of the 1800s and British exploration now, albeit most of my knowledge of the subject is Hollywoodized. It seemed though that exploration, and being the first to the North Pole and Mount Everest and such was pretty much a rich man's hobby. Less for the sake of exploring for exploring's sak...

Re: SpaceX News

I was looking at tunnels, someone pointed out moving material on the surface is easier, so just half bury your habitat at most, and put material on top of it. You only need a few feet for most radiation, iirc it was like ten feet at most. A decent robotics presence and it's be move in ready before y...

If he was really mamufacturimg, there would be little need to strip it.

Widom- Larson looks interesting, I believe the other prevailing theory was Bussard's, of having hydrogen- metal fusion occurring in the crystal matrix.
