I am struck by the level of fear that exists that some "evil" corporation will acquire and bury this technology. This is not the first, second or third time that I have heard this theme on a T-P thread. Does anyone have a documented case, say in the last 20 years or so, where a major corporation acq...

Re: More EEStor news
If my calculations are correct 10 gallons (us) of gasoline has an energy equivalence of approximately 377.778 kilowatt hours or roughly 1,360,000,000 watt-seconds. I estimate at 200 V we get roughly 453,334 A per minute for 15 minutes! Of course the voltage and amperage are variable, maybe it's me ...

ckrucks: Let me take a shot at the Science/Religion question. Science has at it's root an assumption of naturalism. It's methodology is to explain everything by natural processes. Science therefore rules itself out of an exploration of the supernatural a-priori. That is the realm of Religion. If the...

Ten years is WAY too soon. Think of it this way. I have a '97 Chevy Tahoe that is my trailer-towing vehicle. It will serve me for another 3-5 years because I put very few miles on it. We would not turn over our entire transportation fleet in 10 years, even if there was a viable alternative TODAY. If...

Simon: What efficiencies are you thinking about? The conversion efficiencies? I am not following. The Pentadyne specs claim a 1000Wh thermal load (for the HVAC system) when idling a 225kW storage system. Since essientially all losses (electrcial and mechanical) will take the form of heat, this looks...

I am facinated by flywheel storage systems. I first started to think about them in the late '70s. I wanted to build a braking system for my car, storing the energy in a flywheel instead of dissipating it as heat! These guys have a nice 2MW off the shelf solution: http://www.activepower.com/fileadmin...
