Re: Nobody respects Obama.
Yeah, what was the deal with Romney and the dog in his roof? Meh, didn't really convince me to change my vote. Maybe just the choir preaching to the choir. I see a lot of that. Who cares? And I saw the obama drug stuff on the news. If he was still doing it, yeah, maybe a problem. But, from what litt...

Here is a link to someone who may, at least a bit, agree with you. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/01/opinion/krugman-the-war-on-the-unemployed.html?ref=paulkrugman&_r=0 And then this: http://www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/stossel/blog/2012/07/03/out-work-airs-saturday-10pm-et-and-sunday-9pm-et-fnc See e...

Re: Nobody respects Obama.
Yeah, I think there is a fundamental difference between fear and respect. But what about operationally? I might seem to respond to people I respect and others I fear in the same way, but upon closer look, I don't think so - especially if I get to vote for one or the other. At least vote anonymously....

Re: Progressives Are whining About infrastructure again
I think we saw some of that ARRA money put to work on a bridge near where we live down here. And I think it needed it too. Scary stuff decaying bridges. Not many entities seem to want to pay, or can pay. And then someday it's too late. Having been without it for a period of time, I can say that I li...

Re: Constitutional Amendment proposal gathering steam
RE TD: "A lot of ruin in a country." I had not heard or read that. Thanks. I will delve into it. "Pen mightier than the sword." Yeah, a bit trite. I know a very little about Henry and Beckett, but will look into the as well. Yeah, Citizens United. All I *think* I know is what I see on Wikipedia. And...

Re: Constitutional Amendment proposal gathering steam
I can only speak to what I think. But for me, if a politician is saying one thing but getting money (sometimes a lot of money) from individuals or a group or groups that support the opposite, I want to know about it. Or, more realistically, if they are not telling me something they believe in, but i...

Indeed it is their money. Legally. But we curtail what others can do with their own money all the time. Still, I see your point. That is one reason why I want donations to be in the open. No hidden or anonymous donations at all. Not the best answer, but I want to know who is giving what.

Re: Constitutional Amendment proposal gathering steam
Not sure what to think about technology and Super AI's taking over everything. But the lead up to that could be interesting. We know someone who's very creative kid couldn't find work. Smart, but bad at math and not interested in science. He is now starting to make money designing album covers. Uses...

Re: Constitutional Amendment proposal gathering steam
We curtail free speech with respect to lying about someone, or causing a panic (Fire! in a crowded theater). And that without changing the constitution. But I can see that forcing political donors to reveal their identities might curtail who donates to who/m. I think this has been demonstrated in po...

Re: School Adiminstrators Confiscate Knife On Camping Trip
That kid just got his college education paid for. Laaawwwwwsuuuuuiiiiitttt! Of course, the terms of the settlement will not be disclosed. Just guessing on my part. It looks like the school overreacted and/or decided to stop thinking and blindly follow what they believed to be the rules. As an earlie...

Some of this is starting to sound a bit (only just a bit!) like this:

And the monologue was, apparently, improvised by Welles. I keep hearing Zither music while reading some of these posts.

Re: US Senators: What Will ITER Really Cost?
Are there aspects of ITER that will yield data of use to other fusion projects? So maybe ITER (or similar) will never become commercially viable, but maybe there is valuable data that will help polywell or tri-alpha or whatever? A better way to ask might be, is ITERs design capable of yielding data ...

Re: Muslims calling for the Death of all Athiests.
Thank God I'm an atheist. Well, agnostic actually. I mean, I could be. But maybe not. Oh I don't know. At any rate, it doesn't feel to me that a fear of God or reward in a heaven is controlling my actions. I am not consciously making my decisions based on that. I seem to be doing ok. I follow the la...

Colonize another discussion
One of those typical long-winded "debates" on global warming is happening on Phil Plait's "Bad Astronomy" website. http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2013/04/26/climate_change_new_video_from_the_white_house_lambastes_congressional_deniers.html# I move we colonize that thread like the Pilgrims ...

Re: Obama's America, The Progressive Prison
Scary stuff. But there is something in US law called Exigent Circumstance. Does it apply here? I don't know, but scary stuff. This situation was extreme, I'll bet it was legal. Now, if this were done to someone because they had bad mouthed an elected official - I'd bet that would be illegal.
