On the issue of punishing "greedy bankers", the problem at the moment has nothing to do with "greedy bankers", the problem is to do with terrified bankers, that's why were going into recession and the more we punish them the more terrified they will become. When bankers were greedy we were all doin...

Derg: Planet Space is way behind. They don't seem to think so: Irene Klotz is reporting that NASA has suspended work on space station commercial cargo contracts awarded to SpaceX and Orbital Sciences Corporation after PlanetSpace filed a formal contract award protest with the General Accountability...

I was hoping Planetspace would get it (and still might? http://spaceports.blogspot.com/2009/01/ ... award.html )

Why? because they're intent on building a spaceport in a place that could really use it:

George Bush had no problem giving 1000X that to his banker friends. If a net power device isn't funded soon, I'm going to try and fund it. I recall Tom Ligon saying that there's enough information available on the internet now that anyone with enough determination can probably get up to research par...

anyone here thinking of applying? Well, since you asked...yes I did honestly consider it. No, I'm not qualified- I fall short in the technicalities...if they interviewed me, it would probably end up with me saying something like 'Have you no appreciation for genuine passion and intellectual fervor?...

I recall trying to convince my father to buy spacedev stock back in the 90's- before they got the contract to build the Spaceship One engine- and he was convinced it was just an ad hoc effort with little more than him and his secretary. Benson could have rode the dotcom curve and made a lot more mon...

Re: Will people be able to buy their own?

No problem. If You have a use for 1 to 100 MW and can get the requisite NRC licenses and have room for the required shielding and can afford operators for 24/7 production, I don't see why not. They won’t be using it to heat their homes, but there will be lots of people around the world doing just t...

Well if what djolds says is true and it turns out that time is a function of cost, then that should put it within the 18 month range of private sector investment. The private sector probably does more risk-tolerant engineering these days, so that might be the way to go.

I believe Dr. Bussard estimated it would take 5-7 years at $10 B to build after (and assuming) positive Polywell tests. Does that sound about right?
