Generally. Education is wasted on most people and not necessary for others Yeah, who cares about the goims. They dont need to be educated, hu? Honestly, with people like you, I cant see how the US would ever recover from this economic downturn. With 10% educated and the rest idiots, you wont be abl...

American education for the top 10% is excellent.
Are 10% enough to keep your economy running?

Something they haven't even thought of yet. Exactly! Personally, I would call that Know How. But, for Know How you need science and engineering and to be a leader in that you need an excellent education. Personally I think that schools have become to easy and to low quality nowadays. Here in Austri...

I think that he did not ask the right question. The right question is: What is the US currently creating for other countries, that is of higher value than what other countries create for the US? My big worry is that the US and the west in general is creating less and less and mostly is shifting good...

Dr. C. W. Johnson, our resident astrophysicists, says his best info for the kill radius of a Type 1A supernova is around 120 LY. I think it is more like 20 LYs usually, maybe 50, but 120 ly is nevertheless much closer than 3000... Yeah gamma ray bursts can be a lot meaner. You have to be really unl...

Phil Plait disagrees. No "death from the skies" from that one... http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2010/01/07/no-a-nearby-supernova-wont-wipe-us-out/ But even with their added power, a Type Ia just doesn’t have the oomph needed to destroy our ozone layer (as the press release indicates)...

Expensive film tripods can be very stable and dampen vibrations pretty well (you would be surprised of how bad a little vibration can look with a strong enough zoom). Still, I am not quite sure what this experiment is about, or trying to proof/disproof. If someone can fill me in?

Not much of an update, is it.
I wished there was more news regarding this. Things are slow, which is in part due to Woodwards cancer (I wish him the best).
The thread is a good source of up to date info though, I guess.

Personally I am thinking that simply not having capital punishment might be an easier solution. Otherwise you might end up with a lot of gangsters going free because of judges being affraid for their own heads, hmm? I think that life long solitary confinement is pretty good a punishment too. Plus, i...
