THe other missions are less sensitive to scaling laws. Saturn V was cheaper per mass than the shuttle. Actually cheaper than most lifters, IIRC. But with small, low power thrusters, it's easier to get a good cost ratio to transfer to Mars orbit than to get up to orbit. Even better if you can put you...

I had the thought that a fusor would work with instead of a negative grid, a ball or other target made of the favored fuel in the center. You'd have to get the ion "bullets" up to fusion power levels in one pass though, but you'd not have to worry about grid erosion. This isn't too far off from that...

Or plastic wrap. I'm sure there's a number of epoxies or other such materials that could be concocted from materials found in space.

Space exploration can be divided into three areas: Surface to orbit, and orbital activities Outer orbits, and interplanetary work extrasolar exploration, and things of that sort Only surface-to-orbit is really sensitive to mass. The rest can deal with it much easier, since they're not fighting their...

Does PB11 produce neutrinos?

Like the title said. One theory I've seen in detecting a fusion reactor running DT is neutrinos. Would a polywell be pumping out anything of the sort?

I stand corrected. I thought it was faster. Interesting.

They know light travels faster in Bose-Einstein condensates. It's of rather limited use though. I figured it was a good place to do some handwavium for a sci-fi series though.

A slightly separate point, you mentioned continued unconstitutional powers? There's a widely held point, which I have yet to see refuted, that the state of emergency Lincoln declared was never rescinded(and the Constitution holds no limit), and so continues to this day. It's the basis of the power f...

I had to take a break, so I had most of this written before seeing ravingdave's response. I'll go ahead and post this as is though. The succession of the south was no more illegal than the succession of the colonies from Great Britain. The Declaration of Independence specifically says that a proper ...

Just to make the title rhyme. I posted a video in another thread, and someone over there said this: Polywell + Heim's proposed drive system: Neptune and back in six minutes. Looking up Heim on Google, I came across a few interesting discussions. Seems his "proposed drive system" relies on a differe...

I'm not sure how many videos have gotten on the web trying to explain the Polywell, but it might be nice to put them all in one place so that they can be examined, and we can find the better ones. So, how's about a fusion video thread sticky? This I found to be very easy to understand, though a bit ...

paper on space exploration

http://www.hudsonfla.com/thesis.htm (splash screen links to .pdf) This is really long, and very detailed. I've just decided to look at certain sections myself, which I won't bother to detail here. For those interested, the case is being made for Europe specifically and the west in general to start l...

high energy particle work

Going either way, working for power or not working, a polywell seems to be a reasonable way to throw atoms together without too much trouble. You won't get the relativistic velocities that a real atom smasher can, but there's plenty of smaller work that could be done. I thought about this for a simp...
