Re: r/K Selection Theory
"The beautiful ones" emerge. Society's stock of hard-built wealth slowly wastes away. Eventually and inevitably, the society falls into a Tainterian collapse. Population collapses as per the behavioral sink of mouse utopia, wealth is spent to nothing. The society collapses into smaller, mutually sq...

Theory is not a be-all end-all. It can quickly degrade into a self-sucking lolipop. Genuine anomaly is more important, as that is evidence, not rhetoric cloaked in math. Tho in this case you are likely correct. I can appreciate doing an experiment to see what happens. The trouble is when people hav...

Re: Mach Effect progress
Why not use artificial gravity? A couple of BA 2100s tethered apart. With Mach Effects, there is little need for rotational pseudo-gravity. Paul March outlined how to use ME devices to create pseudo-gravity back when ME devices were being called UFGs; a STAIF paper from 2005, I think. I think What ...

ok, but you are talking about current astronaut suits, which are quite bulky and inflated. The objective is to have skintight suits and gloves in the future http://newsoffice.mit.edu/2014/second-skin-spacesuits-0918 http://www.computerworld.com/article/2685641/future-spacesuits-could-act-like-prote...

The fact is, if you can work in your shorts and a t...

I can't say I think much of journalism that doesn't identify the theory being worked with, nor the background of the person doing the work. Obviously though, this guy is not a physicist and he is having delusions of grandeur. This is the norm for people in this field, and why there are so many doze...

Re: r/K Selection Theory
I think many good people can be made during good times, but I don't think it can be done so at a level necessary to sustain a society at an optimal point. I think the bad people created in such an environment will eventually increase to sufficient numbers so as to overwhelm the good. You know, like...

Re: r/K Selection Theory
Without that defense, there is only anarchy. People self organize in the wake of great storms (at least they do on the East Coast). Self-organization of neighbors in response to immediate crisis is not the same thing as a complex market mechanism. And immediate crisis always brings out the looters ...

Re: r/K Selection Theory
We have no examples of a high tech society collapsing. We have a LOT of examples of societies run by paper going down. I am not saying it can't happen but some times qualitative differences change circumstances. We shall see. I can see a banking collapse. The steel mills, computers, and roadways wi...

I personally think our current r type environment is fake. Artificial. It is borrowed prosperity which cannot continue. (120 trillion debt or so. When this baby crashes, it's going to be a beaut.) I also think I have repeatedly summed up this guy's premise with my observation that prosperity is the...

These numbskulls pushed Romney last election, now, somehow, these guys in their great delusion think that a repackaged Bush is just the thing (taking a page from Gruber).    So, what else is new? The Democan communist wing has their own woes, Hillary is campaigning with ruby s...

No snide comments from me on this project. I applaud amateur science, and this one smells a little like some other work I've heard of. Specifically, electromagnetic effects getting past a Faraday cage, especially repulsive effects. I've seen a small scale, ultra-low-force demonstration of it. If th...
