Yeah, one might use a light bulb principle gas core nuclear reactor for higher efficiency. I read some people were theorizing with this a while ago. I also assume that one could improve solid core reactor based NERVA propulsion systems even more more with todays tech. After all most of the testhardw...

Not sure what the question is, but the German word for plasma is Plasma, if that was the question.
So no strange name correlation here ;)

I think they should have overlooked the political implications and used nuclear propulsion systems (NERVA or improved NERVA) for shuttles that go from LEO to lunar orbit (and later from LEO to mars). The biggest problem of course would still be getting into LEO. I would not mind using NERVA propulsi...

Wow, I would consider this a very fair contract. If it is true, I lift my hat to the navy (is that the right way to say that phrase?). It is very exciting technology and it is worth a lot. The Navy is taking a risk with that money and investing it into this research and all they ask in return is to ...

No, but "Nebel" is the German word for "fog" or "mist".
Now dont get confused now, because the German word "Mist" means manure or also garbage in English ;)
So parents resist the temptation to call your doughters Misty ;)

Dr Nebel, thanks for the reply on everything. It is very appreciated. So no unexpected delays in anything. Thats at least good to know and I think it will keep people calmed for a while... well telling from previous threads, I would say for about 2 days or so ;) I know that German names are still co...

Yeah, my friend from back when (he used to work at JET before he went to ITER), told me soon after they started working on ITER, that one of their biggest challanges will be in material sciences. This Tokamak and the environment created in it, is just going to be a challenge for any material. JET di...

Dr. Nebel (do I sense a German heritage here?), can you at least give the people here some releave with at least a perspective on when you believe you will get a notification on when you will be allowed to lift the data- embargo? So no, I am not asking when we will get information, but I just want t...

I dont know, they kinda helped people to have enough reason to avoid a nuclear war. Not a bad thing in my book. I sure still have nuclear war nightmares after almost 20 years after the cold war. The late seventies and early eighties were scary times to grow up in. I never want this threat to be so i...

I would not go as far as some of these previous claims, but it is clear that you need to invest energy into farming for fuels (just like any farming). In addition to the farming you have to convert the sugar from the cropps into ethanol somehow. If you do this via a classic fermentation process then...

A few items of interest

Here are a few things that I found quite interesting in regards to electric power in general, but that might also have applications for polywell. 1. http://technology.newscientist.com/article/dn13545-nanomaterial-turns-radiation-directly-into-electricity.html Now, I do kinda understand how this work...

Well just to put things into some relation: For less than 90 Megawatts of power, you need 4800 acres of land and 35 wind turbines. Now to bring this into relation, 90 Megawatts is about a 1/15 th of what a small nuclear powerplant produces. 4800 acres are a lot of land. Assuming average sized lots, ...

Well, while I am personally hoping that it wont come down to using RLVs for bringing weapons into space (you know we do it, then the others will do it to and that never goes to well), I do aggree that having something like a real RLV would be awesome (if it is powered by a polywell, be my guest). Pe...

I was not very precise earlier, I appologize. I should have added that there is some upcoming(!) technology that might improve the picture for biofuels a bit. Scientists have been experimenting with genetically modified plants and microorganisms, mostly algae that might(!) provide biofuels from much...
