Ah, the sweet wisdom of (dancing) fools. :D Well stated, DF. I think that sums up the general feeling on that paper here quite nicely.

Re: Elon Musk Is In Bed With Crooks

At least initially, solar was subsidized to encourage development and adoption of solar electricity generation. It has definitely become much more widely used that it was 10 or 20 years ago, not to mention the improvements in efficiency and price. I've never heard of base load power being required f...

Re: SpaceX News

From what I understand a big part of the weather concern is the risk of lightning strike during the ascent, and the damage that could cause to the craft.

Re: SpaceX News

As I understand it, it was at 70% for yesterday, then a passing thunderstorm cut loose with lighting withing 10 mi only a few minutes before T-0 (at T-24 iirc), causing the scrub.

Re: SpaceX News

Yeah, and the weather looks to be thunderstorms for at least the next week, so they will probably end up scrubbing Saturday's launch attempt.

Re: SpaceX News

Looks like the next SpaceX launch, CRS-11, is this evening at 1755 eastern time (EDT), 1455 pacific. They will be landing the booster back at Kennedy (on land). Apprently, this launch will be the first reuse of Dragon capsule. According to the article i was reading this one was first launched in the...

Re: SpaceX News

That sounds like a pretty direct competitor to Vector Space Systems . Wonder how many players the micro-satellite industry can support? How big can it get without making space junk an unmanageable issue? I thought most new satellites have to be able to go into a garbage orbit at the end of their li...

Re: LENR Is Real

Crawdaddy, Actually, I don't think theories are that valuable at present, as they are so difficult to prove or falsify. What is needed for LENR acceptance is commercial reactors, probably in 2018. After that, money for basic research will be plentiful. What else will the unemployed hot fusion physi...

Re: New John Goodenough battery with high (too high?) energy density

This strategy is demonstrated with a solid electrolyte that not only is wet by the metallic anode, but also has a dielectric constant capable of creating a large electric-double-layer capacitance at the two electrode/electrolyte interfaces. The result is a safe, low-cost, lithium or sodium recharge...

Re: NIAC, University of Maryland IEC, what is it?

I thought teh name was for a polywell (-like device). If nothing else this could be seen as replication of the results EMC2 has acheived over the last few years.

That is good news. I noticed another interesting entry further down the list:
Continuous Electrode Inertial Electrostatic Confinement Fusion, Raymond Sedwick, University of Maryland, College Park.
Could that be a Polywell?

Re: SpaceX News

SpaceX definitely seems to be doing well on Musk's plan to make a fully reusable rocket, even if it has taken a number of years longer than he originally envisioned.
