That sounds reasonable given the most energetic ones are produced by Gamma Ray Bursts. The luddism against LHC is indicative of the anthropocentric conceit you see in these people, thinking mankind is capable of destroying the planet. Of COURSE mankind can destroy the planet. We could do so for mos...

Re: Question

This is an interesting way of looking at it. Years ago we did the same thing with Rubber from the Philippines and sugar from Hawaii. The US military has long been utilized to insure commerce. Is it wrong to do this with oil? Especially when we don't even get any of the oil we're protecting? I could...

Re: Question

Well, you seem to use the fitted line for your first assessment and the actual temperature for the second. Not really fair. If you use fitted for both, you get 0.3 degrees of difference between period 1 and 3 and 0 degrees of difference between period 2 and 4. I would be curious why the second grou...

Re: Question

But CO2 is MUCH higher in the later periods. Why are the trends the same? Are the trends the same? I notice that the first blue "Cooling" phase dropped the temperature by almost 0.3 degrees while the second one is less than 0.05 degrees or esentially stagnant. Then I noticed that the first heating ...

On the original topic, I don't see how this is more useful than, say, using the radiation from a light bulb to push a spaceship around. #1 This may be better at transferring momentum than radiation #2 It might scale better which could yield a higher ISP #3 It can be entirely contained inside the hu...

Its not so simple as that. The part that washes to the Gulf of Mexico is the residual, left after the crop plants have eaten their fill. Without that residual margin crop production suffers, and the first thing to go away is profit. MirariNefas wasn't saying don't over fertilize. I think he was mor...

Show the working prototype, and money will pour on you from every place to solve the 90% engineering issue. You can twist it the way you want, but this is the way the real world works. Assuming they WANT money coming in from everywhere. If they think they already have essentially all the resources ...

they don't have it, they should have been all over the news by now and doing advertising if they made what they said Or they are facing "significant engineering problems" and know it will take a while to resolve regardless of how much money they have. By not proving to the world that what they clai...

I allege that Woodrow Wilson is at fault for not minding his own business in World War I. You allege that Republican Presidents were at fault because they DID mind their own business in the aftermath of World War I. Are you saying they should have meddled in Europe's affairs to undo the damage caus...

Consider this. Without World War II (enabled indirectly by Democrat Woodrow Wilson) And directly enabled by all three republican presidents after him by refusing to interact with the rest of the world... War is good for tech ? Yes it is, but I think i'd rather have the alternative. Peace and a more...

You have to weep when you imagine what might have been had the Communist disease never existed, or been confined to Russia. World GDP might be twice was it is today, and the general state of human technology might be 20 years further along. One wonders what the state of Nuclear, computers, encrypti...

But a charge on a black hole will selectivly absorb the opposite charge from the Hawkins radiation and quickly neutralize the charge.
