Re: Record performance in the DIII-D apparatus

I wished they would try to break their old record at JET, but it is not a priority. With this Super H Mode, they _might_ be able to reach a Q>1.

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

New paper from Uri's team: Kinetic simulations of sheared flow stabilization in high-temperature Z-pinch plasmas: https://aip.scitation.org/doi/full/10.1063/1.5092241 Looks like more accurate simulation techniques confirm their approach and match experimental results. Also worth noting is that they ...

Re: ARPA-E Requests Information on Enabling Technologies for a Commercially Viable Fusion Power Plant

ARPA-E is seeking information from diverse R&D communities, from both within and especially outside the fusion R&D community, about technological solutions and innovations that can enable commercially viable fusion power plants. While it is impossible to predict precisely what is needed for...

Re: SpaceX News

Read an article recently on Europe's launch systems. It talked about what I recall was like a decade of plans, but no mention at all of developing a reusable rocket in the Falcon vein. Blew my mind. They do have plans for something like Falcon 9. First step is a "Grasshopper" like experim...

Re: SpaceX News

Are you sure about that? I know I've seen conversation about how the Starlink sats will actively de-orbit... though I have to admit I can't find an actual source behind that conversation for the moment. It doesn't make sense to me why you wouldn't. I imagine with an active de-orbit you could likely...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

I am somewhat disappointed that Copernicus will only demonstrate 10 keV ion temperatures. 116 million degrees does not seem all that much. Tokamak Energy is going to do about the same with their current prototype and Helion presumably reached 8 keV with their last prototype (at least that was the go...

How much energy does it take to do that compared to other methods of splitting CO2 into C and O2?

Re: More Helion Energy news....

The Helion Energy website has been updated with some new content. According to their website their prototypes have now demonstrated that they can do it (though they seemingly still keep things under wraps, probably to avoid too much hype). They can now produce Helium3 (presumably) at a competitive c...
