Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter

If runaway electrons are responsible for vaporizing the anodes, I suppose pre-ionization should lengthen the anode lifetime a bit. (Note: I haven't read the paper yet.) Er, never mind about that. The runaway electrons are vaporizing the outside of the anode, near the insulator, not the inside of th...

Re: Lawaranceville E-Newsletter

The October newsletter is out, and several new articles are up on the LPP website: Tungsten anode goes into FF-1; aluminum cathode model is checked Due to the cathode’s complexity, THP wanted us to check the aluminum model before cutting the tungsten piece. Sure enough, a few errors were found, incl...

I figure this is the most appropriate thread for the following links (the first is essentially a link to the second): http://www.e-catworld.com/2014/10/23/the-real-e-cat-shreds-lockheeds-theoretical-fusion-reactor-hank-mills/ http://pesn.com/2014/10/22/9602554_Andrea-Rossis-E-Cat_Devours_Lockheeds_H...

Re: I think Lockheed Screwed Up. We Need Data - Not Specula

Critique of Lockheed Martin's fusion PR campaign and critique of critiques thereof I think I've already said enough on the word "breakthrough" and lack of specificity, but here are some things LM could have done to allay the truest criticisms: 1) Link to the patent applications. Or at lea...

Re: I think Lockheed Screwed Up. We Need Data - Not Specula

perhaps this is the breakthrough they're talking about Perhaps. I don't discount the possibility that Lockheed has made some kind of breakthrough at this stage, but you don't mention the word (assuming it was Lockheed who mentioned it) before you're ready to unveil the breakthrough publicly. Otherw...

Re: I think Lockheed Screwed Up. We Need Data - Not Specula

If someone at Lockheed mentioned the word "breakthrough", then I agree that Lockheed (probably) really screwed up. and even if the blame for that can be laid at the feet of the Reuters correspondent, the fact that she (?) felt the need to use that word is probably largely because Lockheed ...

Re: ARPA-E to begin funding alternative fusion concepts

There's a FAQ here, if you haven't seen it: http://arpa-e.energy.gov/sites/default/files/ALPHA%20DE-FOA-0001184_0.pdf Some relevant responses: Q15. My idea does not exactly fit this FOA, but I still believe it is relevant. Should I submit a concept paper to this FOA or should i wait for a forthcomin...

There's also a Reuters press release masking the rounds:

[Lockheed] said future reactors could use a different fuel and eliminate radioactive waste completely.

Re: LENR Is Real

Rossi has been trying to get rid of the radiation for years and he has done it. I thought he did it with the demonstration back in January, 2011. Bianchini, at least, didn't detect any radiation. And what about the "hot cat" that was tested over a year ago? Did that still have radiation p...

Even worse: http://www.mail-archive.com/vortex-l@eskimo.com/msg98421.html Let me put it this way, if what you say is true - that the sample tested to 99.3% purity of Ni-62, then we have a major problem. Are you certain? That is because several months ago, I personally talked to the person who sold R...

Fusioneer claims Q of 1.084

Doug Coulter claims to have achieved scientific breakeven with his cylindrical Farnsworth fusor, but in this comment he explains why he isn't ready to publish his results in a scientific journal. Most good papers meant for publication are all about quantification of things, measurements and math (sh...

Re: ARPA-E to begin funding alternative fusion concepts

I see your point. A million or two would go a long way for LPP, not so much for EMC2 or Helion. Still, General Fusion applied, and I believe their funding needs are in the same ballpark as EMC2's and Helion's.
