And I think the US will do what it does best: drop the whole pretense of being a gentle giant, and try to secure its 'interests overseas': ie, nuke the s**t out of anyone who gets between them and controlling the Middle East. I really hope it doesn't come to that, but I also don't have much faith i...

I thought world population was supposed to start dropping in the next 60 years. In fact, in most "western" style countries I read the birth rate has dropped close to or even below replacement levels. I think introducing two things to developing countries would have the greatest 'ffect on lowering bi...

You will love Real Climate. BTW Leading Climate Scientist James Hansen has called coal trains Auschwitz Trains. That is a pretty good argument don't you think? If you want to look at evidence for the other side. May I suggest "Climate Audit" - by the guys who debunked Mann's Hockey Stick. And "Watt...

Thanks for all the news. Even though we have longer to wait than originally anticipated, this is still ... swell! It's also neat to know that some of the posters on this board are so tied in with the team. I feel like a 7 year old one week before Christmas. Even though there is no guarantee Christma...

Hey, it's NRL. What happened to ONR? Is ONR still funding, or is another part of the Navy?

[quote="MSimon"] You will love Real Climate. They have just the arguments you want. And when sceptics ask inconvenient questions they delete them. But if you really want to believe there is no better secular faith than Global Warming. Me? I don't want to believe anything. Not even Polywell. If you w...

Thanks for all the input. I appreciate your time, this is most interesting. And now for some thoughts: When I get sick, I visit the doctor. The AMA board approved kind that is licensed by the state. The person the consensus says knows what he is talking about. I do this because I think my odds of ge...

People are asking us to make politcal decisions based on these models. I think we need a clear and concise description of why these models are believed. We also need a clear and concise answer as to why other models are NOT believed. Specifically. We need a lot of other stuff too, but I wanted to st...

Atmospheric Models

OK, this is sort of off topic, but people seem to be well informed and relatively civil on this site. So I thought I would ask here. I am looking for some documentation as to why the climate scientists who think global warming is substantially human induced think their climate models are better than...

Polywell seems the better answer to me; but I'm not exactly qualified to have an opinion.

So the polywell has the Whiffle ball multiplication factor. Does this MIT design have something similar? Or, is it still closer to the bad ol' tokamak design?

So is this system generating the intense pressure needed to fuse atoms (D-D or T-D) that I thought was requried in a tokamak design? I thought Polywell was getting around the pressure issue and replacing it with speed (smashing the atoms together at great speed). Is that true?

So is it intended to produce net energy in the future? If so, how far is it in our future? Now that I think of it, how many reputable programs are going on out there that seek to create net energy from fusion as a way to replace fossil fuels?
1. Polywell Fusion

Patents

Someone mentioned in another thread that if Polywell works, it may end up like the cotton gin. Enough people would ignore the related patents that they would be, in a practical sense, unenforceable. What do you think? Should the inventors go open source? Perhaps some variation of an open patent woul...
