Re: Placing humans at center of computer optimization yields hot plasmas

I have been wondering for a while about when AI and computers will overtake humans as the main drivers in innovation in fusion and other fields.

Re: Graphene battery announced

I would not hold my breath too much. So far they failed to disclose any meaningful information regarding the characteristics and capacity of their production, except for the usual fancy commercial graphs. Additionally the pictures they posted now are of quite "low tech" machinery and equi...

Re: Graphene battery announced

Sorry for the necrothreading, but Grabat just posted this image (and several others similar to this) on their Facebook page. No more information was given and we don't know actual performance values of this "production"(?) model of their battery. Nevertheless, after a year of delays that m...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

Tri Alpha no longer has any tweets on their Twitter account. This was just after giving information out via an article on the target plasma temperature for their new reactor named 'Norman'. I have no idea what happened. Perhaps investors wanted greater secrecy. They had longer stretches without twe...

Helion is keeping quiet. As I said, they purposely want to avoid too much publicity at this point in time.

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

No word about them trying break even but lets hope they will reach that milestone with this test device.

Re: General Fusion in the news

SJ You see what effort they are making to find the right plasma structure, it is not automatic that you crash two spheromaks together and get the required fusion conditions. But I don't see Helion doing that, which is as you point out possibly just being secretive. Still it means that claims are un...

Re: General Fusion in the news

500 eV is not that much if it is plasma temperature. But once you manage to get over 1 keV, you know pretty certain that you have a valid system.

Re: General Fusion in the news

• Prototype goal: achieving fusion conditions (10 keV), sub-breakeven

Well that is rather disappointing, isn't it?

Re: General Fusion in the news

IIRC TAE at one point had plans for an interim design that would "burn" D+T in case PB11 would take too long with funding drying up. They would market D+T reactors until they had refined their reactor enough that PB11 would work. That was years ago however and I am not sure it is still in ...

Re: Skynet is coming.

Here is more about drone swarms. As I have said in the past, the F35 is already an unnecessary and expensive anachronism. The F22s we have would be good enough if they are surrounded by huge swarms of cheap and good drones. You can buy 60(!) of Kratos' new combat drones for the cost of a single F35!...

Re: General Fusion in the news

It is very interesting to see that GF is ready to start planning and building their integrated full scale prototype device, but of course that will take a couple of years. It will also be interesting to see what TAE and Tokamak Energy are able to do during that time. And Helion. Don't forget them! ...
