I voted for the second option (from the top). I don't want to get my hopes up.

seedload , science is not static and IPCC AR4 states explicitly that they do not discuss possible sea level rise with regards to dynamical ice flow . I am certain you already know this, though. wwb , sea ice is not the same as land ice mass. I admitted I typed the wrong type of ice (because deniali...

I have no doubt that the IPPC will predict something dire. It is their job. They will post many scenarios, just as they did in the past, and those scenarios will be all over the board. The one with the 95% confidence level will not be dire. Just as the .13 C / decade is in line with satellite proje...

Oh god you guys know I didn't mean sea ice but rather land ice at the poles. God you people are nitpicky and don't actually care about reasoned discussion.

Wasn't it you who said that the trend in sea level rise is going up based on a short period of observation in satellite data tacked on to longer periods of observation by tide gauges etc.? I said that? Where did I say that? I stated that sea level rise is going to probably go up, based on personal ...

The US is a service country now-a-days. We have long since lost our leadership in that vein. It is unfortunate.

I wasn't aware in Oct of 2009 that more than 2 meters wasn't possible by 2100. So the "minimum of 2 meters" would absolutely be at the high end of the estimate. But global warming doesn't magically end in 2100, and sea ice will continue to melt. I'm not sure if the 3 meter estimate was tied to a dat...

My personal life experience tells me that you will find those people in all places, everywhere in the world, not matter whether rich or poor. Yes, but do they represent all Americans? The Friedman school of thought would hope so. Fortunately that's not the case. I helped two ladies out with their c...

Dishonest weaseling and attempting to obscure the original claim. Unsurprising. ladajo, short term trends have very high error bars, you can't trust them to represent a long term trend: http://moregrumbinescience.blogspot.com/2009/01/results-on-deciding-trends.html Until our sampling frequency is ve...

Exactly. This is the problem. But then why invent a more efficient machine, if slavery is so much cheaper (and child labour in 3rd world countries is as close to slavery as it gets, only that it is not in YOUR own country). "Slavery" is in fact "not much cheaper" in terms of upkeep and raw energy u...

JLawson, my brother was there and we didn't hear from him in 2 days. Turns out a guy was boat lifting people out and they were stealing gas from gas stations to get the fuel (the city was effectively abandoned at this point). Some people hadn't eaten in two days, and were looting for food. When my b...

I'm genuinely surprised that the North American snow pack didn't bring temps down to below the UAH satellite record. That's just remarkable, since the albedo of the northern hemisphere was changed so much.

So I take it you are against shutting down coal fired power plants until a cheaper alternative is in hand? Not on the drawing board - in hand. Yes. And am I to understand you are against energy (which makes civilization possible) taxes? Making carbon more expensive makes other alternatives cheaper....

The first world should have moved to more automation a long time ago. But labor is cheap and the first world hasn't been as innovative as it was in the past.
