It is a gradual degradation over several steps: the CAD rendered bmp is fuzzier than the drawing, then the picture in photobucket is fuzzier than viewing it directly locally. Talk-polywell is about the same resolution as photobucket and jpg is about the same as bmp. I should take some time to under...

Re: All things are dangerous

PolyGirl wrote:Did you know that dihydrogen monoxide can kill you? (albeit in large quanties).
Actually, I've seen reliable papers that show small quantities of dihydrogen monoxide, no more than a few cm deep, cause a large number of deaths every year.

That's a pretty good way to name it. I've seen worse methods used for naming things before.

I have read you points and they are pretty good. I have edited the loead in but not exactly how you proposed. It is kind of a compromise. It goes like this. This wiki is intended to be an adjunct to the talk-polywell.org forum. As such, it is primarily developed by individuals that are highly inter...

well, if you look at it from the point of view of "how hard is it to get hydrogen versus trit or dueterium" then, in a way, he isn't wrong.

On the other hand, I agree with you two: Heh.

And I've heard (though it may not be reliable) that those diamond cartels were very upset that artificial diamonds were getting to be of such good quality now.

In fact it may be necessary to just "waste" the energy to keep the ice sheets from covering a significant proportion of the currently ice free land mass. That would torque the "OMG we're going to bake the planet" folks off to no end. :D This thread makes me wonder if maybe Niven and Stirling (iirc)...

I was wondering the same thing. The ion source is going to be positively charged, just like the alphas, so the alphas should (at least for the most part) be directed away from it.

Since a C5 cargo compartment has an inner width of at least 5 meters, I don't think that would be a problem. I haven't been in a C17 (I left the USAF before I got a chance to load cargo into one) but I wouldn't be surprised if it was wider considering the C17 has a larger cargo capacity and isn't mu...

If the radius of the device, from core to torii is 2m, how large of a gap are you going to have between individual torus sections if they have a 2m diameter?

I wonder if using the dodecahedral configuration would help the placement, structurally, of those supporting members?

SC coil design question

I didn't want to clutter up the 'real' thread with my side question so I thought I start a thread of my own for this. In the SC Coil Design thread you've got the diagram of tubing for the MaGrid torus. I was thinking yesterday (I know, a dangerous prospect :D ) ... Assuming the superconducting coil ...

You don't get to be a non-degreed aerospace engineer (hired by the same aerospace company twice - ten years apart) without being able to do one or two useful things. Degrees show you know how to get a degree. On the job experience that says you did it right shows you know how to get the work done. :)
