Anything happen post-announcement?
I know I'm being impatient but wondering if EMC2 has received the Navy's funds yet, if they have a lab (New Mexico?), etc.

Why 'polywell'?
Why do they call it a 'polywell' when there's only one well?

First off the problem is not neutrons when running pBj. It is alphas. Right. So now we have added added to our already complex soup of electrons and ions. I would imagine that the plasma net charge would have to be measured closely, injecting more electrons to make sure the overall balance is negat...

- 20 MW of fusion power is dumped as heat into the ring magnets when reaction products including neutrons hit them. Whatever else he's saying, this is an interesting point. Am I to assume that the magnets are getting a high pressure stream of LN2 to keep them cool while they're getting roasted with...

OK, I don't know how big boats are wired up and I'm assuming it works like a commercial power grid - the power co monitors consumption and makes gradual changes but usually does not turn down the power to force everyone's lights to dim. So, on this electric boat the polywell generator's tied directl...

Polywell, unlike fission/steam turbine plants. should be able to control the output power on millisecond or less time scales. Over at least a 100 to 1 range. Why would you want to change the power output of the generator? Isn't there a way to vary the power consumption of the motor and keep the pow...

Whenever you have a technological paradigm shift, a lot of companies (typically newer, smaller, and more nimble ones) end up profiting from it greatly, and other companies (typically the bigger, slower dinosaurs) end up missing out. Can't say I know for sure but whoever had experience in high volta...

I'll cast another vote against denigrating tokamaks. The tokamak movement in its various guises wields enormous political influence. If you wanna have Dr Bussard shut down again, kick over the tokamak beehive, but don't complain when your butt gets stung. Better to speak softly now and when more sol...

I'm curious as to what prompted the Navy to take another look at Polywell. Since they had the money, were they going to reopen the project anyway, and just had to wait till they had a form signed? Was it a phone call from a Senator/Rep? Did Dr Bussard's comments about selling the tech to a foreign p...

Speaking of weapons, I was thinking of these hi power lasers the armed forces are developing now. A problem with these is the darn power it takes to drive one. The chemical lasers have the power but consume their fuel rapidly, and weigh tons. A portable polywell, if such a thing was possible, would ...

My ad blocker ate the site...
I wasn't able to see this site for the past week or so from home base. No pages would load, no errors reported. Turns out my ad blocker software, adsubtract, didn't like something about the site. I bypassed the ad blocker, now it's coming up fine.

superconducters were suggested to reduce the overall power usage of the magnets. I think once you've run current into the superconductor you don't need to add more. As long as the temperature is low the steady-state current consumption should be zero. Yes, that would cut electricity consumption but...

Need for superconducting magnets?
Pardon the naive question... In Bussdard's video he comments that the magnets used were fairly weak, and the goal was to contain the electron cloud, not the plasma. So why the talk of superconducting magnets for WB8 etc? Will they be needed if electrons are at a higher energy?
