Heat - Thermal Pollution

Supposing polywell works and is cheap to build. Everyone will want one. Regardless of how electricity is generated (steam or electrostatic recovery) all that power will eventually end up as heat. Might global warming continue via this new heat producer instead of CO2 buildup? Are there economic forc...

I probably don't entirely comprehend the problem, but I thought Dr Bussard (in the video?) said something about equatorial line cusps being very bad for e losses. If you have 2 coils, how are you not going to have a line cusp where the fields meet?

If I recall the Google video & papers correctly, I think electron losses were a big nuisance thru WB-5. They pumped loads of extra current into it expecting orders-of-magnitude improvement but only got 2x or 3x. That's when the lightbulb went off about magnet shape and spacing and WB-6 was the next ...

Whoops. I see it was picked up a couple weeks ago on another forum here. I just caught it on slashdot.

I was thinking of it in terms of a flux of ions carrying 100 MW of power out of the reaction. My thinking was, even a small fraction of 100 MW hitting a neutral grid is going to cook the grid. So, are you saying that the intercept rate of ions to the neutral grid is going to be vanishingly small? Or...

Outer shell - grounded Decelerator grid - +1.7 MV (roughly) Potential "equalization" grid - grounded Accelerator (mag shielded grid) - +50 to +200 KV (depending) I'm not seeing it. What I see is some fraction of the 3 MeV alphas hitting the equalization grid and frying it. Maybe I'm thick here, but...

Because of their speed most alphas should be able to pass the cage although they are attracted by it.
sound familiar?

What's going to happen to the cage when you're running a 100 MW reactor. The cage will disintegrate.

t mentions a grid with a 1Mev positive bias
Since the alpha has a charge of +2 you "only" need a 1.5 MV bias, not 3 MV.
This diagram you have, looks like the 1 MV field is a continuation of the electric field that's already there. But you need a + center to accelerate the electrons, right?

Does this mean the positively charged grid would have to be near +3.76 million volts to successfully extract its energy ? If so, this would definitely interfere with other facets of the machine. I was just thinking the same thing. Tom Ligon writes about this somewhat in "World's Easiest Fusion Reac...

I get hints.

There are some very heavy hitters who want to see this go. Badly.

Simon, could you clarify?

"want to see this go" meaning "want to see this fail (go away)", or "want to see this work so they can invest & make $$$?"

Thanks

I am not a stock broker, economist or anything remotely like it. But I think, to issue stock, it has to pass SEC muster, which means being underwritten by a legitimate financial institution. You can't just print off a bunch of certificates on your laser printer. How do you set the price of the stock...

Long distance HV DC transmission at 1 to 2 MV will be a big winner. This will come from the roll out in production volumes of HV DC to AC converters for Polywell generating stations. Why long distance transmission? Polywells should be safe enough to build close to consumption areas, no? Because it ...
