Re: Mach Effect progress

Complicated thing about these is that you NEED vibration to get thrust. As I understand how the Woodward effect is supposed to work, not quite. You need cyclic acceleration. Putting the "transient mass" cells on a spinning wheel should provide that without (ideal engineering) vibration in the null ...

Re: Mach Effect progress

"Claim on Mach-Effect propellantless propulsion scheme identified as vibration artefact."
exactly what every skeptic had at the top of the list of suspects. And sadly the proponents never appeared to take that possibility seriously.

Re: We lost so many members :(

As best I can make out, the long time the board was down did far more to drive out active membership than the lack of news about polywells. From my particular tech background I had a good idea what the problem was, but had no way to reach anyone in a position to deal with it.

Re: What constitutes a Demonstration Power Plant?

If the reactor is intended as a heat source for an electric generator, building out the heat to electricity conversion shouldn't be necessary for a demonstration. That technology is already well understood. Show that the reactor is outputting so much power at a given temperature and a good power pla...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

It is true that superheating water and ejecting it will give us the lowest ISP (in respect to superheating H2 as example), but it has a number of inherently interesting advantages: ... Anhydrous ammonia is an interesting comparison. A bit harder to store than water, but respectable density can stil...

Sounds like a return of Pons Fleischmann cold fusion.

Re: Aluminum-air battery

Maybe Al2+6H20 => 2Al(OH)3+3H2 in a fuel cell that can deliver electricity, with the H2 sent to a second energy conversion stage?

Re: EMC2 news

By my recollection, the potential well was vital to the favorable energy distribution, ion vs electron, for aneutronic fuels. I also recall speculation that a well could be created without electron injection by differential leakage through the cusps. Of course then you need some other means of heati...

Even then, we need an arrangement where we can be confident it isn't photon recirculation in the feed line.

Of course if you import too much gold, the price of gold crashes. As has been seen when Spain imported gold plundered from the Americas, and the California gold rush.

Re: Direct O2 evolution in collisions of carbon dioxide with surfaces

How much does it erode the impacted surface? And I presume ambient pressure has to be very low, of the O2 is likely to quickly react with the released carbon.

Re: Extraterrestrial colony companies

Blackbody radiation scales with the 4th power of temperature. So a 30% reduction in incoming solar energy gives less than a 9% drop in temperature. Not sure I follow your calculations. Thought it was heat loss by radiation was proportional to the 4th power of the temperature difference. Nope, black...
