[/quote] GIT's most grievous fault was to state that scientists are essentially corrupt, will usually have abusive sexual relations with students, and motivated by angst at the possibility that theories held might change so that they resist such change. He has a very very low opinion on them - so lo...

Mike_P, You make the first one as big as it needs to be to make proving the concept easy. Then once you understand the "knobs" you engineer the smallest device that is feasible once you have explored some of the design space. You do not build your program around putting CP-1 in a submarine first ti...

Hi all, I had an interesting discussion with someone who had 30 years experience in contract administration with the Navy, in particular, contracts with NAWC. Their opinion was that NAWC is the customer not the ONR. ONR might be supplying the dollars but NAWC is definitely the customer. One other th...

I'm thinking that there is another pacing project that this power source will be used for. Since the primary project is not ready then there is no rush on finishing the power source for it. Regardless of a pacing project, the need and ability to make use is there now. Remember all the articles link...

People, please remember that the purpose of this form is to allow China Lake to use a single source vendor for what it wants. Opening the supply contract to the normal bidding process would also expose a lot more details about the project as well as introduce considerably more delays. When the Navy ...

It could be that I wasn't paying attention before, but has the sponsoring naval facility always been the folks out at China lake? The second to last line on page 1 talks about a long term goal of "clean nuclear energy source". The folks out at China lake (a misnomer since it is really a high desert)...

Tried it and got:

Invalid Server Certificate
You attempted to reach www.neco.navy.mil, but the server presented an invalid certificate.

Going back to earlier comments about POPs...

Would the point of oscillating the field strength be to change the geometry of the well such that colder ions might get a boost/bounce off the moving well wall?

I wonder how many people actually read his column. It a good piece that does not play too hard to the conspircy angle.

The point was to fill out a required form, not to say anything meaningful. So long as it looked good enough to pass muster to the government clerk who received the form, nothing more would be written. The more detail they give the more that they have explain to people who wouldn't understand. Think ...

If I believe Wikipedia then each reaction yields: p + 11B → 3 4He + 8.7 MeV Can I assume that 8.7 MeV is enough kinetic energy to pop over the potential wall and make it out to the power conversion plate? If so, then why would we want to oscillate the power to the magnets? I would think that a good ...

I can see your point if I were to believe that "only" the folks at EMC2 are capable of research. Unfortunately taking the position that we need "experts" to tell us if something is worth pursuing is the very thing that got us into the position we are in with the Tokamak project. IMHO there is no one...

So have I, but I don't believe this kind of behavior is endemic of any one ethnicity. Some people just like to start an argument for the sake of entertainment. On a separate note, I have been reviewing the RT video piece and have noticed that it contains a recurrent theme which plays on the David/Go...

Returning back to original discussion for this thread, I have a question about the focus fusion concept. Seeing the physical arrangement of the device, would the geometry work well with a direct power conversion? I'm thinking that the device would sort of sputter out the alphas in a spray in one gen...

If you will review the Google-talk video you can watch Dr. Bussard amend his earlier stance. He explicitly states that having expended efforts on such early designs he no longer believes in them. Just as early belief in Newtonian physics proved to be misplaced, IMHO so is belief in a Tokamak fusion ...
