KitemanSA wrote:So who was it that used an image magnet inside the MaGrid to simulate a high beta plasma?
That was later work together with icarus and is actually analytic in nature, not a simulation.

I thought Indrek's work simulated HIGH beta, not the low beta/ cusp confinement of this work. Nope. Early days all I did was field visualizations, electron paths and basic magnetic confinement. But I have to say it was all very amateurish . I did try some high beta with possible wiffleball la...

... Secondly, in a commercial environment, if you have something of value but lack the resources to develop it yourself, you'd want as many people as possible know about it (once you have the critical patents in place). So you'd make a huge show. They have some patents already. Are there more comin...

So I believe during WB7 they discovered serious issues, which they hope to solve with WB8 but they are in no way confident they may be able to. Yes. If the lead scientist of the project admitted that they have fundamental problems, how long would it take for some journalist to go and ask the navy w...

Allow me to add my two cents. Forgive me for butting in randomly. The state of polywell research can be predicted from political situation (basically based on what people are doing/saying/not saying) or from scientific data. We don't have scientific data, but we do have much better understanding of ...

Wiffleball size

Something I threw up for fun, following from the previous electron count estimates in the "significance of electron recirculation revisited" thread.

No I meant http://www1.chapman.edu/~jipsen/mathml/asciimath.html This works purely on the javascript/html/dom level. Just including this file will get equations working. Just type "dollar latex-equation dollar". It is very clever as it goes through the document as it loads and replaces these sequenc...

I'm running Linux. But any kind of install requirement is a bad idea. I do think upgrades are ok though, say everyone should ditch older IE-s for even security reasons. So we have to live with slightly broken things. Indrek, On the test site you mentioned: And sqrt signs for me are not drawn properl...

Apparently I used the term "non-neutral structure" without being sufficiently clear on what I meant. (It's implicit in the derivation - but that's a poor excuse.) What's the easiest way to say this? It's simplest if we only have protons and electrons. Quasi-neutral means the proton density is nearl...

All right. This might be good enough. Maybe times have changed. You know I worked for 5 years as html/perl/php/javascript/dhtml monkey. But haven't touched any of that stuff in 5 years now. Just include the latex2mathml js in the forum headers and you're set. Peaches. But poor Simon will be hard pre...

That's no good. Scientists use only one thing for math: latex. I don't think oldies like Art would enjoy the experience of learning new things.

Also not all browsers support mathml. And not all browsers support it consistently.

So in general. It's a bad idea.

Would you mind giving some numbers? n_e n_i the geometry of the structure (smallest dimension, and whether it is more spherical, cylindrical, or slab shaped) the potential difference within the structure WB6 dimensions, 0.1T sphere of uniform charge, 0.1m radius Effective well depth ~4000V <E>=12kV...

... For a sphere with radius R and a uniform charge density rho, the potential difference between the center of the sphere and infinity is Phi = 0.5*(rho/epsilon_0)*R^2 I do hate to expose my ignorance, but if you are talking a sphere with radius R, shouldn't that be R^3 for volume? After all, this...

@Indrek: I can read your equation now, but I still don't know how to do it myself. When I edit your post I only find " http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2749/52808308.gif ", which leaves me as high and dry as ever. You have to turn your equations into a gif or jpg somehow. I don't know the secret sa...
