Re: EM Drive

It's been a while since I posted in this forum, and I really don't care to be involved in the arguments here. But I find the topic somewhat interesting. I originally completely dismissed the entire EM-drive stuff because it seems obviously wrong. And I still think most of the "explanations" for why ...

Re: plasma density in magnetic bottle

It's typically bell shaped peaked in the middle. H-mode in a tokamak has a more steep profile at the very edge called the pedestal due to a transport barrier, then bell shaped toward the middle. Either way it really has to have only one maximum on the macroscopic average since transport tends to sme...

Re: particle simulation using fast multiple method

What I meant to ask is does it use the electrostatic approximation (and magnetostatic). I.E. instantaneous field E1 = kq2(r1-r2)/(r1-r2)^3.

Re: help with kernel for fast multipole method.

You might consider doing it numerically and store the result in the most general way possible for lookup. I try to formulate them in dimensionless parameters so it can be re-scaled easily.

Last I heard they were not going to try any recovery this time.

Re: Radially-Magnetized, Permanent Magnet, Multi-Grid Fusor

It seems like each hole is physically identical to a current loop. If you look at the bound current in the magnets. I don't know why there would be any difference from an electromagnet.

Re: Is the National Ignition Facility (NIF) getting close?

I just hang around here in case one of them comes up with a 5+ GW p-11B aneutronic power source for my supercruising vectored-thrust BWB SSTO backyard space-hopper.
I would love to see the design :)

No it is not finished yet. I am about half way equipment-wise on this first leg of the journey. But, I can make some plasma right now. Just getting my toes wet. Haven't set sail quite yet.

Re: NASA-backed fusion engine could cut Mars trip down to 30

Yeah travel time says more about the exhaust velocity of the rocket, or specific impulse, than about the thrust. Unless of course the thrust is so low that acceleration becomes the majority of the travel time.

Re: Mach Effect progress

You already know what my point is. You just stated it. "...one can't verify momentum exchange against the universe." Why are you asking me what my point is? But, of course, I may not understand the problem as you say. But that is my point anyway. If you disagree you have two options. One is to simpl...

Carter, you're demanding answers to questions you don't understand. You don't get how annoying this is? I'm doing my best to explain what science is all about and at every turn you IGNORE what is said to you and press on with childish assumptions. I'm not exaggerating, nor acting all dopey, when I ...

Re: Mach Effect progress

Geeess. . . This is why no one puts much stock in cheesy engineering claims. People like you PRETENDING THEY KNOW WHAT THEY DON'T. Woodward's theory mandates conservation by use of Noether's Theorem. Any differentiable symmetry of the action of a physical system has a corresponding conservation law...
