Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

Over the coming months, the company will be accelerating Norman’s levels of performance to further validate the fundamental confinement requirements that will ultimately be necessary for commercial operations. No, they are working to validate basics for commercial, in "coming months," not...

Re: General Fusion in the news

SJ Adiabatic compression is GF's target, and they are searching for a plasma structure that will provide that. That is the point, not the temperature. Once GF has determined the structure compression will be scaled up, hence the larger injector was made and is being tested. GF is the only ones that ...

Re: General Fusion in the news

I have been unclear what the 500 ev has referred to. I thought it referred to temperature reached under stable plasma conditions using both their injector plus explosive compression using shaped charges (issue being stable plasma and contaminants - lithium liner used to suppress contaminants).

Re: General Fusion in the news

No, it is the difference between private and government. GF is doing only what is needed to prove their design in integrated form. Unlike TriAlpha, GF has significant issues to solve in the prototype, such as: -plasma contamination during compression (lead mist from the collapsing shock wave, they p...

Re: Elon Musk Is In Bed With Crooks

Why do you think solar is a scam? Why is it subsidized? Why is base load power required? Why is CO2 always added as the major factor in selling it? There are niche power applications for it, but it is not a base load power source. If fusion power was cheap would we even be talking about solar??????...

Re: Elon Musk Is In Bed With Crooks

I am a Musk fan also, but solar is a scam, pure and simple. Even without Polywell, TriAlpha is nearly there. Solar is a niche power solution. Electric cars is a solution looking for a problem. Batteries is also a niche solution. Musk is counting on the government to fund his Mars project. He acts li...

Re: General Fusion in the news

SJ,
You may be right, but TA is talking like PB11 is their commercial target instead of an interim, which was a bit of a surprise to me. Only one way to find out for sure...

Re: General Fusion in the news

I had understood that temperature scaling was the purpose of C2-W. It makes no sense to be short of PB11 and leave doubt for another machine to resolve (unless they have an interim commercial target short of PB11 - I had not heard that). Still, GF is the only one I have seen ev targets and status fo...

Re: General Fusion in the news

Speaking about TriAlpha, yes, boron is a huge bar to jump, but I consider TA a success if they can reach sustained fusion conditions with deuterium. But that is me. I imagine the C-2W machine might show that, or near enough. I think C-2W will ignite the race to commercial for all parties.

Re: General Fusion in the news

In GF's newsletter today: In the months since the beginning of 2017, General Fusion has made impressive progress. We are now well positioned to move forward with the design, construction, and operation of an integrated “proof of concept” prototype fusion machine. This machine is intended to take our...

Re: General Fusion in the news

I try to keep an optimistic schedule view. The status update 'some adiabatic heating during compression' is not helping. Plasma stability maintained during compression is old, old news. The large Marshall injector that was built end of 2016 may be needed to do the chemical compression experiments pr...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

There are so many that would want to know the results, just off the top of my head those current and potential investors in the company needed to fund the commercialization phase, investors in solar and wind, public policy makers etc, etc. When a breakthrough technology is making the break with $ tr...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

It takes just one, then the flood gates open. I am hoping word gets out, but these guys are all super cautious these days so will likely break the news with a paper. If you hear when C-2W 1st plasma is made... Exciting times. I keep hoping for Helion news. GF is at the conference presenting latest r...

Re: Small Tri Alpha news blurp

SJ, The 43rd conference was less than a year ago and that paper addresses stability, but not the claim of stability and effective fusion temperature both. The second part is key as NBI, as pointed out in the paper just released in March of this year is not guaranteed to increase effective fusion tem...
