Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

not my work but relevant underlined comments are mine. Consider a 1,000 ton spacecraft with a 10,000 km/s exhaust velocity and an acceleration of 0.722 m/s/s. For a 1 AU trip at constant acceleration, flipping at the midpoint, it will take 10.5 days and consume 66 tons of propellant/fuel. Now let's ...

I found this list of destination for one g travel The Moon / Luna: Closest to Earth (Supermoon): 356,577 km Travel time (at 9.80665 m/s2, no deceleration): 2h 22m 12s Travel time (at 9.80665 m/s2, decelerating halfway): 3h 20m 24s Mercury: Closest to Earth: 77.3 million km Travel time (at 9.80665 m/...

Re: Z-Pinch Renaissance

These are very rough numbers ( with huge assumptions ) but your looking at 60 days will get about to Jupiter. 90 days will get you to Saturn. with a flip and slowdown because what is the point of going without stopping for a visit.

I would like to see what they expect with 10 million ISP and 1 meganewton of thrust.

and I wonder how many of these could you put in a ship...

Not many, still limited by that vaccum bottle effect , only way to get rid of heat is by radiation

Re: Extraterrestrial colony companies

Of course if you import too much gold, the price of gold crashes. As has been seen when Spain imported gold plundered from the Americas, and the California gold rush. Even the thought of too much gold can crash the market, a very real possibility because gold prices are over inflated even above the...

I agree, most laws end up being passed to keep the Status Quo rather than develop innovation.
Polywell seems to be one of the victims of that process.

China now claims to have two "Enhanced babies" with a third on the way. At first it was touted that is was just HIV resistance but with the third birth it was also shown intelligence and memory enhancements were part of the package. http://cdn.webfail.com/upl/img/fcd6ea1e729/post2.jpg

Hmm, Just saw a request for a quote for a vacuum tank with six port holes made out out of stainless steel with some very high specs that looks like a enlarged LM machine, about 7 meter long and 1.5 meters wide. From a friend of mine in manufacture for the Gov. I am going to ask him to send the link ...
