Re: Company (Quaise Energy) plans to use fusion technology to drill for geothermal
Just to note for distant future reference, if they do cool the mantle and stop plate tectonics, carbon-based life is going to die out… Much more dangerous than Global Warming, though might take a while. Yep, it might. If humanity extracted the totality of the energy we are now using (about 20 TW by...

Re: Avalanche Energy
A post just a few hours old on the feedthrough Giorgio has been talking about earlier: https://twitter.com/AvalancheFusion/status/1771220645851922539 New High-Voltage feedthrough design and getting ready to try and go for lab record and Series A milestone of 300kV in a 6 cm radius fusion core. Previ...

Re: Jäderberg future power - Swedish fusion startup
This thing is starting to take up a lot of place at the KTH site in central Stockholm with around 100 employees and a world wide net of engaged expertise. Their website is swelling but somewhat too nebulous in my opinion. Here is a fresh interview with the founder: https://www.novatronfusion.com/new...

Re: Novel plasma phenomenon announced on phys.org
As you mentioned it is purely theoretical so far. They transferred the math from existing and proven phenomena of "waves behaviors" from other fields to the electrostatic interactions between particles inside a plasma. The main idea of this paper (for what relates our interest) is to establish a ma...

Novel plasma phenomenon announced on phys.org
Plasma oscillations propel breakthroughs in fusion energy: https://phys.org/news/2024-03-plasma-oscillations-propel-breakthroughs-fusion.html "This new class of plasma oscillations can exhibit extraordinary features that open the door to innovative advancements in particle acceleration and fusion," ...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
One other source of revenue for Helion not mentioned much is licensing. Once the technology is proven later this decade (something which I have little doubt will happen), the Mitsubishis and Westinghouses of the world, or those looking to supplant them, will be chomping at the bit to license the te...

Wikipedia answered about the Festivus. I have no grievances to air about my fellow forum members.
But drink for a Happy New Year with good plasma performance in every single fusion contraption all over the globe and no newfound instabilities!
Of in course in non-alcoholic beer. Cardiac arythmia....

Re: ZAP Energy News
I wonder if this is a matter of ready to confirm & publish as it seems their FuseQ device test amps is high enough? From what I understand, they have the input current, but the pinch current did not increase as much yet. Could be a lot of reasons for that. Looking at what LPPF has been going throug...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Good point. Well, I have sometimes wondered why the russian technology of on site reactor tank annealing is never discussed in fusion. From the start of the russian nuclear program they had an issue with producing reactor vessels in the size needed for commercial power plant. The first work around ...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
Helion themselves say a 10 T FRC outperforms a 44 Tesla Tokamak https://www.helionenergy.com/faq/ "Fusion reaction rates (the amount of energy produced) scale as magnetic field to the 4th power, an extremely strong scaling. However, that is the magnetic field inside the plasma, not outside. A 10 Tes...

Re: Helion Energy to demonstrate net electricity production by 2024
One cool thing about Helion's machines is that they can load follow really, really well. That means that they do not have to rely on a large grid for stabilization. I think that should help with smaller consumers that need/want their own plants. It is a shame though, that it is so hard to get a gri...
