Focus Fusion news

Anyone else here following Focus Fusion on Facebook? I could do without the climate change junk, but they're showing bits of the assembly of their new reactor. Ultrasonic soldering, beryllium, and safety boxes.

Re: What the heck is this GreenNh3

So how much trouble would it be for seals and stuff- - actually building an engine? Plus safety matters. Plus security, this is an explosive component.

What happens when a truck with 500 gallons of fuel crashes on a highway through a suburban area?

Re: SpaceX News

So how does the need to spend weight on more shielding affect the weight savings?

Re: SpaceX News

Was it here I was reading about him wanting to use steel?

It's not just strength ratios to worry about, a mostly carbon fiber rocket would have a different radiation risk.

Re: Extraterrestrial colony companies

Talk about thread drift. I just went back and looked, there were a couple of posts about financing with the bank idea, but none of the rest directly addresses the idea of colony mutual funds and such for financing individual or group colonization.

More financing. More sustainable, in some ways.

Re: Extraterrestrial colony companies

Forgot about this thread. Some interesting articles, but still no comments about having future colonists invest in a colony and fund their move now, rather than later.

Re: EM Drive

We will have to see what Woodward does to address it. It might be a decent shot to try a different design, like the magnetic oscillator I've mentioned. While there is magnetic issues to be dealt with the cap stack could be on an air bearing or something and thus have no space for Dean drive effects ...

Re: Deneum - deuterium/titanium interaction produces energy

The metal- hydrogen reactions seem to be the most sensical of the theories, does titanium even fit with the pattern of most researchers using nickel or palladium?

Re: Mach effect questions

The big problem I had with calculus was remembering enough algebra to do the tests. The concept made sense, though even before calc I was having trouble with some of the notation. I know the P/t thing is doing something with rate of change, I just don't know what the symbol means, which would probab...

Re: Mach effect questions

Today's update, worked on a spreadsheet so I can plug stuff in and tweak things, like max mechanical drive with whatever system I work out, capacitor sizes, etc. Greek is the trouble right now. Some of the letters Woodward uses don't seem to be Greek, or are different forms of the letters than the t...

Re: Mach effect questions

So "G" should be a constant to look up? That helps a lot. I'd imagine that's what it is, in not seeing any reason he wouldn't be using standard stuff. Now to re-read things again So I can start again trying to parse out where which variables are. Right now it's mechanical drive frequency a...

Re: Mach effect questions

So, found my notes, here's the fun parts, I'm wanting to work to being able to go from knowable quantities such as capacitance(in farads), voltage, acceleration etc. into physical needs and predictions. On page 73 of his book, he has the main equation. Is "G" gravities? I need to look up m...

Re: Mach effect questions

I have a few questions, having been rereading Woodward's book. I'll have to get notes for a few about equations, but I'll start with a thought for a different thruster design. Put a plain cap stack on a carriage with a a magnet or coil. Acceleration is provided by an electromagnet, much like in a s...
