Here's the response I got back from Derrick Hu at NAVAIR: I found out an option on the contract was exercised to extend the period of performance to 3/31/2014. Therefore, we will not know any follow on information until sometime next year. I asked a followup question to see if this is the notice tha...

Re: NAWCWD LRAF Spreadsheet

This new one is sole source. I do not see where they will not stay sole source if they go for 8.1. I think it is just an artifact of the placeholder. I really think they will stay sole source. If they go for DEMO, then it may open up to a new construct, where EMC leads a team. But, so far, ONR sees...

I can't seem to see the link from China, so I'm not sure exactly what the excitement is about, but I don't believe the original contract mentioned "1QFY12". At any rate, I would assume there can only be a new contract number if there is a new contract, not if one is "imminent", as ladajo said. Sinc...

NAWCWD LRAF Spreadsheet

I've looked over the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD) Long Range Acquisition Forcast (LRAF) spreadsheet that ladajo posted back on page 69 with emphasis on line 316. Although I've been out of government contracting for 12 years (and my experience was with AFRL and DARPA), the LRAF ...

Contract Extension

Looks like the current EMC2 contract option for the ion gun manufacture/modification is getting awarded. https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&id=172f53639c2b7cef2fd02a775f42816c&tab=core&_cview=0 An interesting note from the notice: During the course of the contracted study several anom...

This is good news. "Wait and see" means that you expect something to be happening while you're waiting. And something happening means funding.

Do they even have a plan for turning this heat energy from fusion into electricity? Steam? Wonder how long it will take to get above unity once steam turbine...

It seems like everyone missed icarus's summary. Here's my attempt at a summary: Turbulent plasma flow reduces fusion. Spinning the plasma like a rifle bullet stabilizes the plasma. The MIT team is injecting the plasma with impurities (not stated what's used) and using x-ray spectroscopy to measure p...
